About this listen
The long-awaited memoir by movie and theatre legend Brian Cox.
A Guardian, Times, Sunday Times and Independent Book of the Year
*Featuring a foreword by the executive producer of Succession, Frank Rich, an executive producer of HBO's Succession, a former chief drama critic of The New York Times, and the author of the memoir Ghost Light.*
From Titus Andronicus with the RSC to media magnate Logan Roy in HBO's Succession, Brian Cox has made his name as an actor of unparalleled distinction and versatility. We know him on screen, but few know of his extraordinary life story.
Growing up in Dundee, Scotland, Cox lost his father when he was just eight years old and was brought up by his three elder sisters in the aftermath of his mother's nervous breakdowns and ultimate hospitalisation. After joining the Dundee Repertory Theatre at the age of 15, you could say the rest is history—but that is to overlook the enormous graft that has gone into the making of the legend we know today.
This is a rags-to-riches life story like no other—a seminal autobiography that both captures Cox's distinctive voice and his very soul. Rich in emotion and meaning, with plenty of laughs along the way, it will be a classic in the vein of The Moon's a Balloon by David Niven and What's It All About by Michael Caine.

Interesting
I was interested to get this book as I have enjoyed many of the movies, series etc he has been a part of so I was curious. I did find his life story quite interesting, it covers a life span part of which I have been alive, therefore I could relate to many events, movies, series etc that transpired around him, It seemed an honest telling and it surprised me at times how I found myself not liking or agree with his opinions. It did not stop me listening as in essence it is his life, opinions and story and I respect that.
The narration was wonderful and having (to me) such a well known voice it felt like he was there talking to me as I went about my day.

Unapologetically himself
What a gift to hear Brian tell his own story - high points, low points, regrets, embarrassments, acknowledging his talents as well as flaws, politics ... and even quite a bit of gossip about other thespians. Loved it and would highly recommend

A great voice for an audiobook
It was good hearing some funny stories from Brian’s life. Not so good hearing about all the deaths from people he knew

Hat’s n Rabbits.
This biography is a fantastic review of stage, movie & TV performances by Brian Cox and his co-workers. I especially liked the fact he applied twice to be a member of Actors Equity in the early days in Dunedin very amusing story. He includes all the fascinating people he has worked with, and very rarely gives “spraying” to anyone for bad behaviour. A self educated, self employed, successful actor who hopes to continue till death(most likely on stage)…

Brilliant
Brilliant when the author reads his own material. Which is a must for an autobiography. Shame he doesn't talk about individual movies as much as I would have hoped.

I just Loved It!
I wasn't sure when I bought it but I knew Brian as a serious acting man - talented and forthright and I have been engrossed by several of his Films and TV work
The book is a mirror of the man - funny, sad, pulls no punches, entertaining, thoughtful, and provocative
Isnt that enough of any autobiography???
This book is enough and so much more

Sitting by the fireside
Sitting by the fireside, privileged to be in the company of a frank, wise and at times tender Brian Cox. Highly recommended.
