This book can be listened to on its own. It's the first book in Aran's story. While it is recommended, it is not required to listen to the first three books.

The King's were so brutal, without apology
The first book about Aran took me back into the Cruel Shifterverse.
The way the story started helped me connect back with Sadie and her pack and remember the different characters.
I really enjoyed the dynamics of the assassin group. They were put through so much, and Aran just kept going. The Kings were so brutal, the demons were observers with some fun interaction here and there, Horace was so quiet until he wasn't, and John was the person that Aran could rely on.
It was good finding out about Aran and reading about the different characters. I can't wait for the next book to see how everything goes at Elite Academy.
I read on Kindle and read along on Audible with good dual style audio. Told from Aran's POV for almost the whole book.

Never had a series made me I laughed so much
Loved all of Sadie's story and Aran's I think I like even more. So much dark huror. If RH's with a crazy Female character and "what the hell?" mental male characters are up your alley definitely give it a try. The characters build from Psycho Shifters all the way through, so start there. Good Luck!
