About this listen

Based on their workshops and counseling experience, psychologists Jane B. Burka and Lenora M. Yuen offer a probing, sensitive, and at times humorous look at a problem that affects everyone: students and scientists, secretaries and executives, homemakers and salespeople. Procrastination identifies the reasons we put off tasks - fears of failure, success, control, separation, and attachment - and their roots in our childhood and adult experiences.

The authors offer a practical, tested program to overcome procrastination by achieving set goals, managing time, enlisting support, and handling stress. Burka and Yuen even provide tips on living and working with the procrastinators you may know.

Wise, effective, and easy to use, this new edition shows why for 25 years Procrastination has been an immediate must-have for anyone who puts things off until tomorrow.

This book goes extremely deep into the topic.

Amazingly eye opening insights into how your brain works. The authors present an intensely thorough examination of what procrastination is, why we do, and how to overcome it. The density of the information probably warrants a 2nd or 3rd reading for most people, to truly grasp the concepts.

Disappointing

I am somewhat amazed that this book failed to identify existential angst and dearth of meaning as significant causes. Without valuation and prioritisation it is all but impossible to choose any direction.

great topic knowled but couldn't get through it.

I tried 3 times to finish this couldn't get passed chapter 7.

this book is an amazing book if you want to learn or understand what procrastination is but so far fell short on helping people who are reading this as a self help book.

at first I loved it and couldn't believe how the book was hitting on many of my traits. Most reviews here also say the same so no doubt the authors know their topic exceptionally well..... however I soon realised it goes on and on and on..... throwing out hundreds of ideas and traits almost guaranteed to resonate with you. The detail and understanding of the topic is incredible, so what's the issue? I brought this as a self-help book, 6 chapters in the book has failed to offer any solutions or ways to help me. you've told me the issue now how do i solve it? it simply explains all the different aspects and there are many, leaving me waiting and waiting for the solutions. What ends up happening is maybe only 20% of the topics are directly relevant to me as it goes of talking about traits and issues that are not meaningful to me. Maybe if il keep going there will be a "soloutions" chapter but I can't spend my time getting there not knowing if it will come!

if I had a suggestion for the authors I suggest raising or explaining issue or topic then directly offering solutions on that topic. Then next topic solutions and so on. failing this I felt let down wanting more when a topic resonated with me then left me hanging by moving onto a new issue/topic now not related to me.

At last a factual based book offering real help

If you could sum up Procrastination in three words, what would they be?

Orovoking, Life changing

Any additional comments?

I loved this book!! For years I've struggled to understand my family and been racked by guilt over my own tendencies. Having grown up with it you realise something is wrong but not sure how to approach it or even to understand it from an emotional point of view. Instead of getting ridiculously over hyped time management 1 hour summaries/takeaways, you'll get an honest book which sheds light onto the issue and provides you with real strategies and processes to assist in overcoming this. This is now my bible for dealing with this issue.

Extremely Useful in understanding this very common yet misunderstood human behaviour

I was searching for a book on procrastination because I got fed up with my chronic habit of procrastination. It came to the stage that I had to do something about it. So I started looking for a solution and I started looking for books and I came across to this book. I cannot explain enough how useful it has been in making me understand this Concept and behavior of human procrastination. I highly recommend this book to anyone who, like me, want to do something about their procrastination. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I felt called out on multiple occasions

This book hit hard in many places!
The first 1/4 of the book is a bit dry, but stick with it. I have found it really helpful. It has given me insight into my behaviours and practical strategies to improve.
I really wish the audiobook chapters were named and not just numbered - there are parts I’d like to go back to, but they are impossible to find without some kind of index!
