Publisher's Summary
Phineas Smith has been cursed with a power no one could control. Roark Lyne is his worst enemy and his only hope.
The only human student at Mather's School of Magick, Phineas Smith has a target on his back. Born with the rare ability to tap into unlimited magick, he finds both Faerie Courts want his allegiance - and will do anything to get it. They don't realize he can't levitate a feather, much less defend the Faerie Realm as it slips into civil war.
Unseelie Prince Roark Lyne, Phineas's roommate - and self-proclaimed arch-nemesis - is beautiful and brave and a pain in the ass. Phineas can't begin to sort through their six years of sexual tension masquerading as mutual dislike. But Roark is also the only one able to help Finn tame his magick.
Trusting Roark's mysterious motives may be foolish; not accepting his temporary protection would be deadly.
Caught in the middle of the impending war, Phineas and Roark forge a dangerous alliance. And as the walls between them crumble, Phineas realizes that Roark isn't the monster he'd imagined. But their growing intimacy threatens to expose a secret that could either turn the tide of the war...or destroy them both.
Contains mature themes.

Utterly gripping faerie romance!
Phineas Smith is one of the rare humans who can access the infinitely powerful magick ley line; unfortunately, despite years of study at Mather’s School of Magick, he still has very little control over the power and has a tendency to set things alight. His college roommate, Unseelie Prince Roark Lyne, is constantly exasperated with Phineas, having to bail him out of any number of dangerous situations as hideous creatures are regularly drawn to his power. The increase in these incidents and the rise of tension between the Seelie and Unseelie students on campus herald a much greater threat to the Accords and it looks like Phineas and Roark will be reluctantly drawn into turmoil.
I thoroughly enjoyed this supernatural faerie / enemies-to-lovers romance, the drama and suspense kept me glued to the book the whole time! It reminds me of Holly Black’s YA fantastic stories, although this isn’t anywhere near as brutal as those. This is the first of three books so be warned: the storyline ends on a high note but lots of stuff will be resolved in the next books. It’s not YA, but the heat level is low, focussing more on the magick, the developing relationship, and the political manoeuvring. I liked both the MCs a lot and I hope we’ll see more of them in later books, although each one focusses on different couple.🎧 John Solo gives his always-excellent best on the audio (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue)!

Not my usual genre but pleasantly surprised by the story, narration and depth this book 1 gripped me to the end. I have no choice, I must finish the trio lol

The narrator ruins it a bit
There is a torture scene at the start you can skip it and still understand the rest of the book and later on he has a dream about it you can skip that too but it will be a bit confusing
The narrator ruins it a bit the tone and cadence is all wrong nearly all the women sound terrible he shakes his voice at weird times it’s hard to listen to but if you can stand it it’s worth the read
I got it for free so my standards are a bit lower than someone who payed for it
The world building is mid you can tell the author was trying to do a few different things but it came out a bit of a jumbled mess
On the whole a good read I liked it a lot
