About this listen

One night of bliss could unravel a kingdom.

Be obedient. Be grateful. As the neglected illegitimate son of a powerful family, Corin is expected to follow his magic-gifted brother to the palace as a servant. He’s unwilling but resigns and allows himself one night of distraction in a stranger’s arms.

Corin never knew pleasure and pain could be so exhilarating, so comforting. Corin only regrets he’ll never again see the anonymous man who ruined him for anyone else.

Until the next morning when Corin meets his brother’s new arranged fiancé.

Prince Audric doesn’t want a loveless political betrothal, but he’ll do anything for his kingdom. His last night of freedom is a rare indulgence—and a terrible mistake.

Corin is sweet and beautiful and sees Audric like nobody else does. He’s also Audric’s fiancé’s younger brother. Audric’s arranged betrothal might be a relationship in name only, but he can’t touch Corin again.

Constant proximity hurts when they can’t be together. But avoidance is impossible when Corin might be the key to unraveling the conspiracy behind Audric’s betrothal—and when Corin keeps fainting into Audric’s arms.

Prince and Pawn is a high fantasy gay romance with hurt/comfort, forbidden pining, inappropriate use of vines, and more magic tigers. The Perilous Courts series is best enjoyed in order, but each book follows a different prince and his Happily Ever After.

CW for the barely legal dub con

I want to love this, I really do... the world building is gorgeous, the characters are great, the story telling and voice acting are top notch... but whyyyyy... why the extremely uncomfortable and creepy age gap? I was slightly discomforted in book 1, but it was tolerable because they were both relatively young. book 2 made me more uncomfortable and gave me a sense of foreboding about the direction of the books. this one almost had me asking for a refund.

I ended up sticking with it and pretending the love interest wasn't a literal teen virgin being picked up by a crown prince who's into extreme pain play. I'm all for S/M if it's done well, and for much of the book it really is. then 2/3 in the ages were explicitly stated, and a ten year age gap with a teen seriously made me feel ill.

in the end I finished it. I enjoyed about 3/4 of it, but I can't get past the glaring squick. I'm really sad, because the very last thing s&m and queer rep needs is yet another story painting queer folk as... well . this 😞

Fantastic Gay Romance High Fantasy Series

I loved this as an e-book and loved it as an audiobook. All three titles in this series so far have been equal in terms of my enjoyment. When I think it's Julian and his assassin partner, Whisper or Bellamy and dragon rider Rakos Tem, now Audric and Corin, I cannot choose. I've thoroughly enjoyed every one of these pairings. Tavia Lark writes addictive characters and seeing Prince Audric get his HEA was everything I could have asked for.

There is a sexual bite to Prince Audric and Corin's book. Audric, the oldest brother of the three, is the sensible, practical one. He has survived assassination attempts, fought in a war for Sandrelle, and all by the time he was nineteen. Now he is to be wed to a son of a friendly house. House Marcel. It isn't a love match but Audric understands this will shore up the scalestone mining and production, and Lord Geoffrey is happy to have dalliances with women, his preference, and Audric can be be with men, his preference. On the surface it seems as good as it will be for all. But House Marcel may not be as friendly as it seems, yet someone within may be everything Audric has never dared dream of meeting.

Corin and Audric are so good together, they're both private and understand one another, they even share the same sexual kink, which is a sado-masochistic one.

Seeing Julian and Whisper, Bellamy and Rakos Tem, B@astard, Bellamy's blinkmink, and the gorgeous and cheeky fellcubs again was a bonus. I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out. The narrators do a good job as well so I'll be listening when book #4 becomes an audiobook as well.

Favourite Book of the Series and now Audiobook!

So i was cheeky and had to listen to the audio of my favourite book of the series and wow i adored how both Kirt Graves and John Solo portrayed my favourite boys and hearing snippets of the other characters (UM HELLOOO RAKOS TEM) makes me want to go and listen to the entire series from the start. I adore this series so much and i think i will also love it just as much in audiobook form. Thank you so much for bringing my two favourite boys to life with your amazing voices.
