Campbell is a brilliant writer and scholar, both prosaic and well-researched. The scope of this work is astonishing. It furnishes many wonderful stories, discoveries, and observations, and it does not shy away from the brutality and intimacy of some of its material. Definitely requires focused attention and multiple listens.
