Publisher's Summary
Nominated in Best Female Narrator at the Audie Awards 2020.
She must fight to prove herself...before it's too late.
DCI Jane Tennison came through the ranks the hard way, opposed and resented at every step by her male colleagues.
When a prostitute is found murdered in her bedsit, the Metropolitan police set to work finding the perpetrator of this brutal attack. DNA samples lead them straight to known criminal George Marlow. The police think they've found their man, but things are not quite what they seem....
Desperate to remove all doubt around her suspect, Tennison struggles to make the charges stick. And then a second body turns up.
With the team against her, DCI Jane Tennison is in a race against time to catch a dangerous criminal - and prove she's just as tough as any man.
Baseded on the award-winning TV series starring Helen Mirren, the complete and unabridged Prime Suspect trilogy is now available for the first time in audio.

Loved it. The first book in the Prime Suspect series. As I was listening, I was replaying the miniseries episode in my mind which made it super easy to follow and picture the characters. Rachel Atkins is THE best narrator on Audible. She does the voices and all making so much more enjoyable to listen to. You'll love this one.

It's 1990 & this police woman is not wanted
Jane Tennison is a tough female detective who is not wanted because of her sex. She fights for the position of a colleague who died and eventually wins the respect of the male dominated team.

A cop story with a female perspective
Quite dated by todays standard of ‘Line of Duty’ and the like plus a plethora of Scandinavian cop stories but fitting and novel in it’s time and selection for a television series. Well read by a great narrator with the ability to create credible characters and sense of who they are but the story perhaps doesn’t have the befuddling power of those around now. One almost felt disappointed it turned out the way it did.

works regardless of the medium!
Jane Tennison - what a creation by the prolific Lynda la Plante!
I guess we are all conditioned by Helen Mirren's brilliant portrayal of an ambitious, talented and all too human Jane Tennison in the medium of the TV series. This first of the accompanying books, read or listened too, does not disappoint.
Lynda's acting and theatrical background perhaps contribute to the multi-media success, which not all authors manage to succeed at.
A good example of the crime genre transcending the limits imposed by highbrow critics!

prime suspect
I had seen the TV series and found that good tie in to the first one.
The narrator sounded like the actress Helen Mirren who played Jane Tennison in the TV series.

A good listen
Honestly the narrator of this story really lives inside the Jane Tennison character and reminds me of Helen Merrin in the TV series. Well done 👍🏾

Average at best
From the start the tone was angry and the language and characters quite obtuse. I only made it to chapter 6. The protagonist is not a likeable person and the other characters are much the same. The story is one that’s been told a thousand times and was boring. La Plante needs to be more current as this seemed a little behind the times. Lacked humour, depth, any likeable characters and the story was average at best. Left me feeling irritated and a little offended by the language which was really aggressive and over used. This felt like a production line novel for a paycheck for all involved in its publication. I’m happy I didn’t pay for it. Thanks Audible Plus!
