About this listen

Jiddu Krishnamurti was a famous Indian philosopher, speaker and writer. He explored ideas like the nature of mind, meditation, inquiry, psychological revolution, human relationships and bringing about a radical change in society in his lectures and writings, emphasising that such a revolution cannot be brought about by any external entity, be it religious, political or social. His most famous books are The First and Last Freedom, The Only Revolution, and Krishnamurti's Notebook.

In this Hindi-language translation of The First and Last Freedom, Krishnamurti emphasises on the importance of self-understanding, arguing that truth cannot be found within formal institutions, organised religions and their dogmas or in any guru or outside authority. He claims that we are all operating with the sole focus of the self and its context in time and place - this results in competition, conflict and the constant promotion of one's own self over all others, even those closest to us. He further claims that the only hope is the internal transformation of individuals, and finally, he seems to believe that this may be possible to a great enough extent to change society.

Taking a more philosophical and psychological approach to why we’re miserable, Krishnamurti says that by changing ourselves, we are changing society for the better. By taking us through society’s common concerns, such as suffering and fear, love and loneliness, sex and death, the meaning of life, the nature of God, and personal transformation - consistently relating these topics to the essential search for pure truth and perfect freedom, Krishnamurti helps us contemplate about life itself.
