Publisher's Summary

From author's preface:

From the beginning of time, the harp has been used as an instrument of praise. In ancient times it was the traditional instrument of accompaniment for the Greek lyric poets. These poems are meant to be spoken aloud, to the simple accompaniment of music I have composed on my harp. Like the praise songs of the ancient Greeks, who sang the praises of their gods, their heroes and their earth, these are my praise songs, a variation on a theme.

From Arete Poetics website:

For the past 25 years, the author has given an annual lecture/performance at Stanford University, and has presented both her own poetry and the voices of women from the ancient oral traditions at home and abroad. She has given programs of Sumerian stories and Greek myths at the harp for elementary school children, and was a consultant for the Scholastic Books on their Greek myth project. Her acclaimed memoir, Giants & Heroes: A Daughter's Memories of Y.A. Tittle, (the football quarterback) was published by Steerforth Press in December 1995.
