About this listen
A master storyteller. “Something is out there that doesn’t have a name,” writes veteran sailor and writer Christian Williams as he invites us along once again on a 5,000-mile voyage of discovery around the North Pacific. Equipped with a new boat, a well-stocked toolbox, and the entire history of philosophic thought, he takes us as crew through squalls and calms deep into a laboratory of the universe that exists only out of sight of land.
Funny, erudite, and at times deeply personal, Philosophy of Sailing explores who we are and how encounters with the unknown can be a path to revelation and joy. With 20,000 miles at sea, Williams is also a master teacher of how to sail a boat across perilous oceans and the renovation of yacht and outlook required before departing on the voyage of a lifetime.
With a preparation guide, toolbox of books, and glossary of nautical terms.

A great book
A fabulous blend of sailing terminology, passage making and philosophy. I am interested in all three so really enjoyed this book and felt thoroughly engrossed by the images of sea, and spirit of adventure described via challenging circumstances and the pondering why am I here. Brave to sail alone and braver to read your own book describing your inner thought for all to see. It may not appeal to all but it did to me as a sailor and person who own diverges between dreamer and pragmatist.
5 stars all the way for me.

A book for the practical dreamer!
At 58, I hear Christian’s voyages and can’t wait to follow suit, a doer and a thinker, and as he admits; too much of a thinker at times, seeking stillness in a world of motion,
Loved the book and his reading of it,
Thank you Christian, may the wind always be in your sails!
