About this listen
The "enchanting" (Publishers Weekly) Jane Jameson series returns with this fun and witty paranormal romance following a vampire consultant who has nefarious plans to oust Jane from her role as the head of Half-Moon Hollow’s vampire council.
Ever since Jane Jameson took over running the Vampire Council for Half-Moon Hollow, things have been a little unorthodox, and that doesn’t sit well with the head office. Who would have thought vampires were so into bureaucracy and tradition?
Enter a vamp from corporate who’s determined to unseat Jane and get the council back on track - which means no more of this Kentucky neighborliness and mixing with humans, werewolves, witches, or anything else.
But Jane’s not interested in going back to the bad old days when the council was mired in corruption and tended to "accidentally" eat people now and again, but she might be in over her head this time. Good thing there’s a pretty new face in town who just might be the perfect distraction and help save Jane’s career.

Loved it! A quick, entertaining vampire read
This is a new to me author and narrator and I loved both the story and Amanda Ronconi's narration. So much so, that I've already snapped up the first book in this series as well as another author's that shares the same narrator. Set in an urban fantasy world where humans know about vampires, the book focusses on a Meadow and those close to her. When a vampire from corporate (Weston) is sent to investigate Jane, Meadow's boss, to ensure her region is being run efficiently and on the up and up, a series of unfortunate events make it clear that someone is out to get them and ensure that Jane is no longer the head of the vampire council. There was a great mix of humour (including some solid sarcasm and good-natured snark), mystery, romance and character development weaved successfully through the story. I loved both the main and secondary characters and the narrator really made each of them shine, especially Dick and Weston whose parts were top notch for me. Meadow's special vampire gift was a heightened sense of smell which she used for a side business matching blood with tea/herbal mixes. On probation for a bloody rampage in her newly-turned years, she's embraced a more bohemian outlook on life, actively trying to think and live in a more peaceful, harmonious manner, hence the title. When Weston, her complete opposite, enters the scene and starts shaking everything up, she struggles to juggle her attraction to him alongside his 'corporate' outlook and occupation that could have disastrous repercussions on her life.
I haven't read any other books in this series and didn't feel like I needed to in order to really enjoy this one. The story focussed on Meadow and her consequent attraction to Weston and I wouldn't have known who the other books in the series were on before my search of the author. While the story centres around vampires and their life amongst humans, it didn't scream paranormal as the writing approached vampirism in a more casual style, telling the story as a recount of events in Meadow's life without too many of the bells and whistles you see in some other series with similar tropes. While Meadow's style isn't my usual choice for a female lead, I absolutely loved her. She was the perfect balance of empathetic and realistic and the narrator's accent for her part was a pleasure to listen to. The intro's at the start of each chapter were cute, with short reflections on how to attain peace and understanding as a vampire. The whodunnit part of the story added a nice touch of mystery without taking over the story, maintaining a solid balance with Weston and Meadow's potential romance.
In short, I loved it. The narrator and story got everything right for me and I have nothing negative to say (which I'll admit is rare lol). I'll definitely be sinking my teeth into (excuse the pun) more of their work for sure.

I know more about the author than her characters..
Same, same, but different... I feel I know the author more than her characters, after several series than the actual characters.
Always the same mummy issues, loves daddy, constantly uses the same phases and plots..
But!! I've still listened to multiple series of hers multiple times, maybe not every book, every time, but, I've read them several times over!
I still love the relationships, the family, the way the characters make their lives together.. even if the resolutions are very much the same.. it makes for easy, happy reading!
