About this listen
When a retired police officer is found dead in his home, Lt. Eve Dallas and the team are called to the scene to investigate. The victim is Martin Greenleaf, former Captain of Internal Affairs. At first glance it looks like suicide but Eve thinks there could be more to this carefully laid scene than meets the eye.
Captain Greenleaf put a lot of cops away during his forty-seven years in Internal Affairs. Did the weight of the job finally prove too much for him? Or could this be a case of payback in death.....©2023 J. D. Robb (P)2023 Hachette Audio UK

Loved this book
Once again great story from the wonderful Nora Roberts so good to see my favourite fiction couple and their friends next chapter in their lives. Listened in 1 day couldn't put it down. Fab narration from Susan Erickson! Can't wait for next instalment.

Excellent instalment
This was another excellent story in this series. So glad the humour is back in full bloom ! Eve and her team, including the awesome Roarke, have done a great job of standing for the dead yet again. Loved listening to it.

Solid 3 star and no more
As a long-term reader/listener of this series, this book is so predictable and linear that it hurts. I guess it’s a good palette cleanser because the stakes are none, character development is a myth at this stage for the series and the predictable lines are getting on my nerves. Can Ms Robert please give a bit more creative authority to her ghostwriters? I would appreciate some changes to the background storyline that go beyond Mavie’s never-ending pregnancies or another mention of the Icove case.

Good narration.
2023 AUDIBLE REVIEW
Loved this in audible though it was slow drudgery for most of it.
I was sad for Don losing someone close to him.
Loved having Darcia support Don as she did and how this plays out with them.
BOOK REVIEW
Still love this series but found this one just a bit too slow with little fun or excitement.
Starts off with Eve and Dallas on holiday and spending time in Ireland with the family.
So funny Roarke acting the farmer.
Don Webster being close to the victim was sad but made this story.
Very slow overall with lots of drudgery needing to be waded through to get to the information.
Eve leans towards the right killers from the start but the proof just isn’t to be found.
Would have liked more personal time with the gang, but we don’t even get that.
A small amount of time with the house project but otherwise very little else.
I did thoroughly enjoy the Webster and Darcia angle, the best highlight of this book in my opinion, and where they are going with their lives.
Read the book through my library but I've bought the audible version.
