About this listen
Paizo Publishing is the award-winning publisher of fantasy role-playing games, accessories, and board games. Pathfinder Tales: Liar's Bargain is the latest in their popular novel series.
The sequel to Hugo Award Winner Tim Pratt's Liar's Island!
For charming con man Rodrick and his talking sword, Hrym, life is all about taking what you can and getting away clean. But when the pair are arrested in the crusader nation of Lastwall, Rodrick faces immediate execution, with Hrym spending the rest of eternity trapped in an enchanted scabbard. Their only hope lies in a secret government program in which captured career criminals are teamed up and sent on suicide missions too sensitive for ordinary soldiers.
Trapped between almost certain death and actual certain death, the two join forces with a team of rogues and scoundrels, ready to serve their yearlong tenure as best they can. Yet not everyone in their party is what they seem, and a death sentence may be only the start of the friends' problems.

Compelling story with excellent humour
I did not realise this audiobook was one in a series or the second in a sequel but it was fantastic as a stand alone. I never read fantasy but I wanted to try a different genre for a change and I was not disappointed. I think much of the magic went over my head but my lack of comprehension did not hold up the story. I could never have imagined my favourite character in this book would be a talking sword! Hrym has such a brilliant wit and I laughed out aloud dozens of times at his delightfully depreciating interpretation of all the other non-sword characters. Tim Pratt’s world building was clear enough for a fantasy novice like me to enjoy and grasp. My favourite aspect of the story was the exceptionally snarky and loaded banter between the characters. The dialogue was brilliant and clever!
Steve West is a fantastic narrator. His speech is crisp and clear and his voices and accents enriched the characters immeasurably. I recommend this series.
