About this listen
Beginning of the End
They call it Pandoravirus. It attacks the brain. Anyone infected may explode in uncontrollable rage. Blind to pain, empty of emotion, the infected hunt and are hunted. They attack without warning and without mercy. Their numbers spread unchecked. There is no known cure.
Emma Miller studies diseases for a living - until she catches the virus. Now she's the one being studied by the US government and by her twin sister, neuroscientist Isabel Miller. Rival factions debate whether to treat the infected like rabid animals to be put down, or victims deserving compassion.
As Isabel fights for her sister's life, the infected are massing for an epic battle of survival. And it looks like Emma is leading the way....

An original and interesting take on zombies
I love the science in this. the way the hard science is woven into the narrative in an ELI5 kind of way makes it all so much more enjoyable than the tired old unexplained outbreak. I also enjoyed the absence of gratuitous violence, which I expect comes in the next book as is hinted in the first. As a big Sci fi and apocalyptic literature fan, I loved this. 100%. Although, I have to say none of the characters are particularly likeable at first, and their money made it a bit alienating. But still a great read/ listen.

Confronting, shock value for entertainment
The novel starts with a scene that's super triggery, some of the concepts make a really good story but there is also SO much about this book that's plot holey as heck!
If this book shows up for free its worth a listen but I wouldn't seek it out or pay for it. Listened to it at 1.5 speed in some areas that were slow and I normally like listening to a good book at 0.8 or 0.9. I stuck with the book though and will listen to the next one and maybe the third if its free but there is better novels out there.
