Connecting to nature for blokes

This is a book I’ve been waiting for. I listened to the whole thing in one sitting and then promptly sent it to all the blokes in my life. The narrator is the author and his tone is both easy to listen to and convincing - he knows his stuff. He deftly combines his expertise from the military, elite sport, and eco psychology into a program that speaks to men, using frames and language that are accessible and practical. Highly recommended.

interesting take on high performance

This is a well narrated book that shares some established ideas on high performance but also some that are less mainstream. I thought the idea of connecting to a place as part of grounding for peak performance was interesting and a concept that is often overlooked in western cultures.
A worthwhile read.

A holistic & sustainable approach to achieving in life

Thoroughly enjoyed this offering incorporating a broad mix of perspectives with respect to achieving high performance in life.

From western psychology, eastern principles of Self and energy, military strategy, high performance sports people, permaculture principles, systems thinking, somatic experiencing, eco psychology, cultivating intuition and observation of patterns in the natural world.

A thought provoking, experiential guide to a values based, embodied, sustainable approach to reaching success and health, without the cycle of perfection, excessive striving and inevitable failures that lead to burnout.

A short read, easily digestible, with exercises included to promote personal action. Recommend!

Outstanding insight into high performance

A brilliantly balanced assessment of high performance from a psychologist with decades of experience across a broad range of elite institutions. Mark delivers a deep insight into the systems within which high performance becomes possible, and sustainable, and introduces the largely unknown, but never more relevant topic of ecopsychology. Highly recommended for anyone interested in achieving and maintaining an elite level of performance in any life domain.

Excellent

I recommend this book.

There are very useful ideas here that are good to know.

An example is how our modern world creates this unrealistic expectation that to be a high achiever we need to put in 110%. This is unsustainable, and leads to burn out and mental unhealth.

One part I loved was the author wrote about the value of seeing natural patterns in the world. The author’s advice was that we should reacquaint ourselves with those patterns. Because we’re often living out of sync with the natural rhythm of the world.

Great for anyone looking to be a high performer

This was a good listen. Knowledgeable author with an easy-to-listen-to-voice (reminded me of the smiling mind app). Content pulled together many facets of mindful leadership of self and others with handy military-based summaries and acronyms to help you remember the concepts. I took lots away from this one.

Expected more

Nice enough book, but a bit vague. Surprising to hear permaculture mentioned. Didn't know eco psychology was a thing.

An excellent reminder for all of humanity

We, in the western world, often strive for individual greatness (with varying definitions). Yet many of us fail along the way. Pushing harder and faster and being more clever are often the responses, yet we continue to make the same mistakes. These responses aren't working. In a clear, concise, easy to understand and practical way, this book helps not only to explain why we might be failing, but also reminds us what we can do about it.
