果てしない存在の孤独感、そして愛の倦怠が引き起こす生の崩壊を乾いた筆致で描き出した「三匹の蟹」は第59回芥川賞を受賞。「三匹の蟹」以前に執筆された日本人女性留学者の青春への決別を描いた連作「構図のない絵」、「虹と浮橋」も併録。
