About this listen

Jack Dunne will do anything to save his son.

A violent civil war. An unstoppable enemy. One road to freedom.

In the wake of a global conflict, foreign forces occupy part of Australia, quashing all but a few pockets of local resistance. The tense stalemate ends in 2034, when Jack Dunne reignites the war.

Dunne is an Outrider, one of the last elite special operations soldiers in the Resistance. As the enemy prepare to eliminate the freedom fighters once and for all, he is tasked with his final mission.

If Dunne and his eleven-year-old son achieve the impossible, and survive, they'll secure their future across the border in Free Australia.

But the road to victory will be bloody.

A cinematic action-thriller from bestselling author and veteran Mark Wales. Explosive and exhilarating, Outrider is a heartfelt father-and-son story of survival, resistance and hope.

Edge of my seat story.

Hi, I did find it hard to follow at first, but once I understood the story, I was on the edge of my seat for the rest of the book, right up to the last line.. looking forward to hearing more.

Action at its best

I wasn’t expecting such a high octane book and was surprised at the level of detail. Really great stuff

Aussie Sci Fi

A good book written by Mark. He would have narrated it well. Nice hearing about locations, sports and things close to home. Well done mate on your first novel.

This is not s super hero story

A great story with hopefully more to come. A mix of warrior mindset balanced with responsibility as a parent, friend and patriot.
Jack's vulnerability apparent from his first confrontation at the vehicle check point ensures you know this is not a super hero story. When I found myself questioning how something tied in it was pieces together at the perfect time to connect me more with the characters. I would highly recommend.

The Road meets Thunderdome

This isn’t a genre I’d normally be drawn to but having grown up in Victoria, and around the Dandenong Ranges particularly, it was interesting to imagine it in a near apocalyptic future. The action that kicked in hard around the second hour barely lets up for the remainder of the book. Mark’s military/combat experience is evident, and while, personally, I could have done without some of the more gruesome details, I enjoyed this book. The narrator was very good.
