Publisher's Summary
The only thing in Colin Mulligan's life that makes sense is taking cars apart and putting them back together. In the auto shop where he works with his father and brothers, he tries to get through the day without having a panic attack or flying into a rage. Drinking helps. So does running and lifting weights until he can hardly stand. But none of it can change the fact that he's gay, a secret he has kept from everyone.
Rafael Guerrera has found ways to live with the past he's ashamed of. He's dedicated his life to social justice work and to helping youth who, like him, had very little growing up. He has no time for love. Hell, he barely has time for himself. Somehow, everything about miserable, self-destructive Colin cries out to him. But down that path lie the troubles Rafe has worked so hard to leave behind. And as their relationship intensifies, Rafe and Colin are forced to dredge up secrets that both men would prefer stay buried.

Great.
The story between the family unit was more deep than I realised. This sequel fill in gaps but also made me interested in what the other two brothers were doing. Hopefully their story gets told also.

Lovely book. Superb narration!
I have to say that this is hands down the best narration I have heard. Quite dissapointed that Spencer Goss only has 1 other audiobook performance on audible. I look forward to seeing (or hearing rather) more.

High Angst Contemporary Romance
Colin (and his brothers) deserves all the good things after half a lifetime of internalised homophobia from his bully of a depressed father. He finally finds the love and support that he needs in ex-con Rafe but it's a tough journey to get there... peace for both guys is hard won.
There is reconciliation and the beginnings of healing amongst the brothers.
The young queer kids trust Rafe & Colin support are real catalysts for good & bad but Colin never gives up on them, even when all hope seems lost. The epilogue with them all is terrific, uplifting.
I really loved this book, maybe more than I loved book 1... but if angst isn't your thing then it might be too tough a journey for you. Both Colin & Rafe have deep wounds to heal from very troubled upbringings.
The narration is terrific.

Captivating
I honestly was only going to listen to this while I was crocheting and ended up finishing in less than a day. The story is excellent, characters deep, plot well paced. The narrator was superb! Highly recommend.

A religious experience.
In a word: Wow.
Roan Parrish knocked this book out of the park.
If this book doesn't have you questioning your sexuality, connections to others and expand your desire to help the world then you're already dead.
I. am. shook.

Excellent
This is my favourite redemption romance and it's also the only book I only revisit in audiobook form because Spencer Goss performs his heart out. The exhausted timbre of his 'Colin' voice breaks my heart, there is so much feeling in it (except when there isn't, when it's empty and desolate and that's even more heartbreaking).
An inspired performance.

Utter perfection!
I held off from reading this book for over a year as I could not warm to caring enough to read a book about Colin Mulligan, the arsehole brother of the much beloved Daniel Mulligan from Somewhere in the Middle (first book of this three book series). Boy did I get it completely wrong!
Roan Parrish produced something magical in this book that flipped my feelings for Colin and left me completely in love with him and his forever love, Rafe.
Spencer Goss, a new to me narrator, absolutely hit this one out of the ball the park. Such a pity he has only narrated three books in total, including the third book in this series. He was able to create two distinct voices for Colin and Rafe, that captured their vulnerability and strength. Oooozing so much emotion. And yes, this book was all about emotions and vulnerability. The narration lifted an already brilliant book, to that next level ... becoming a book that stays with you for a very long time.
The book deals with Colin's battles with his sexuality versus the conditional love he received from his father. Or what Colin thought was conditional love. How all of this got more complicated with the death of his mother, which led to a less than ideal family dynamic between a father that is spiraling into drinking and depression, and his relationship with his sons. All of this impacted Colin's ability to build strong and honest relationships throughout his life, in particular with his brothers and his best friend.
This book is also about Rafe and geeezus he is such a wonderful character. The smexy times between the two were 🔥 😘.
I'm not sure that I've been able to describe in words how much this book impacted me. It was utterly perfect for a book that deals with some really tough material. Five big stars from me.

Deep and emotive
A wonderful difficult story which really resonated in a large part due to the fabulous narration. I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much because I was really annoyed with Colin after Dan’s story! But the narration and the great storyline added so much depth to the characters, helping to explain Colin’s thoughts and emotions. I’m really looking forward to starting the third book.

Average
I felt as though this story lacked an interesting plotline... I did not feel connected to the protagonist at all. At times I was sitting thinking how 'out of character' the protagonist's actions were and others feeling little to no empathy for him.
This story was an average one, although the narration was amazing I did not feel a sense of satisfaction finishing this story.
