About this listen
"Our Next Reality does a fantastic job of giving a balanced and insightful analysis to some of the most pressing questions our society will face in the near future. The material is data driven, digestible, and very actionable." RAY KURZWEIL, Author/Entrepreneur/Futurist
"A wide-reaching exploration of the intersections between AI, VR and AR: it's a mind-opener, and a source of reflection on how transformative and still unknown the future of communication, personal technology and even personal privacy might become." SCOTT STEIN, Editor at Large, CNET
Over the last 100 years, technology has changed our world. Over the next decade it will transform our reality.
We are entering a new technological age in which artificial intelligence and immersive media will transform society at all levels, mediating our lives by altering what we see, hear, and experience. Powered by immersive eyewear and driven by interactive AI agents, this new age of computing has the potential to make our world a magical place where the boundaries between the real and the virtual, the human and the artificial, rapidly fade away. If managed well, this could unleash a new age of abundance. If managed poorly, this technological revolution could easily go astray, deeply compromising our privacy, autonomy, agency, and even our humanity.
In Our Next Reality, two industry veterans provide a data-driven debate on whether the new world we're creating will be a technological utopia or an AI-powered dystopia and give guidance on how to aim for the best future we can. With a Foreword by renowned author Neal Stephenson and section contributions from industry thought-leaders such as Peter H. Diamandis, Tom Furness, Phillip Rosedale, Tony Parisi, Avi Bar Zeev and Walter Parkes, this book answers over a dozen of the most pressing questions we face as artificial intelligence and spatial computing accelerates the digitization of our world. Find out why our actions in the next decade could determine the trajectory of our species for countless millennia.
"For anyone who wants to use AI and XR to help build the future, read this book to help you skillfully navigate a future of unprecedented danger and promise." JASON HINER, Editor in Chief, ZDNet
"Our Next Reality really is a must-read for anyone who wants to prepare for the massive AI and XR driven disruption coming our way." CHARLIE FINK, Author | Adjunct | Forbes Tech Columnist

Interesting views of the future
I quite like that it had 2 contrasting visions of how AI can shape the future. Both positive and negative styles explored. Both agreeing on some points, and seeing our next reality as inevitable.

Really?
The unique power in this book is the clever packaging of 2 counterposing manifestos into a single work.
I was left with an overwhelming question about what the future really holds for humanity, and how I should lead. And that’s the whole point.
Wearables, media and marketing, feature more heavily than I was expecting, but this balances out in later chapters where broader use cases are explored.
There’s a lot in this book that I felt myself wanting to disagree with. In particular I struggled to reconcile some of the utopian views of the future with the polarized world reported in the news every day. But Graylin and Rosenberg are persuasive, bring deep sector expertise, diverse life experiences, and hence are very credible sources.
Recommend read with an open mind, roll with the punches, learn lots and gain new perspectives.
Absolutely essential listening.

Loved the two perspectives shared from rich lived experience
Decades of experience of the different authors give tactile details for areas we will wrestle with. This seems like a modern version of Proverbs calling out wise paths for xr x ai builders to walk in, and which paths to avoid. Although they take two voices of optimism and cautious dialog, Both voices mix where compassion meets discernment, caution meets hope, analysis meets contribution.
I love reading the voices of builders over decades. While some analysts mock or tear down. These words are from builders who are actively contributing to shape the field year on year. Experience I want to learn from, and contribute alongside over long term horizons as we also build in XR x AI. Thank you for laying foundations that we continue to build on.
We want to build kitchen knives that help people. Not swords that hurt them. The more years we craft tools. The more we realise that the tools end up being imbued and shaped by the crafter who is human. And if words, stories, songs and hymns that they have in the background of the tool makers life are that of curiosity, service, hope and compassion. The craft is not just material. But a gift that they give back through their craft and calling.
I’ll be listening to this again next to Rick Rubin in the next decade. And share with my team as we try to make tools and little xr x ai lamps.
Thankful for their generosity to share their experiences and encourage the next gen.
