About this listen
An absolutely gripping psychological thriller with a brilliant twist
Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy.
Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family.
Then Simon says another woman’s name. The way he lingers on it, Caroline, gives Marianne a shudder of suspicion, but she knows it’s nothing - she can’t entertain this flash of paranoia.
In the old days, she’d have distracted herself by excelling at work, but Marianne left her glamorous career when she married. She’d speak to a friend, but she’s too busy with her children and besides, Simon doesn’t approve of the few she has left.
It’s almost by accident that Marianne starts to learn more about Caroline. But once started, she can’t stop, because what she finds makes her wonder: is the question she should be asking not "should I be jealous" but..."should I be scared?"
Fans of The Girl on the Train and I Let You Go who are looking for a dark, gripping psychological thriller with a final twist to put their jaw on the floor will love Our Little Lies.

A hard to get through first half, but good second.
The first 6 hours of this book were a bit of a struggle. The main character isn't the brightest person and never stands up for herself, partly due to being a battered wife, and partly because she's supposedly prone to paranoia. The husband is a controlling, violent misogynist who plays the fitting bad guy. Many of the ensuing actions and conversations felt somewhat unrealistic at time, if not purely for the fact that there's often a way out that is never taken. The wife continues to fight for things she doesn't want, but there is a sense of realism there behind it all too. However, the "party scene" was where it all started to get exciting and everything slowly unfolds. It's pretty addictive from that point until the end. The only downside was that the ending wasn't a huge twist (I saw it coming) and there's a whole unresolved relationship between two characters involving a massive betrayal that's never addressed. Left me wanting a bit more to wrap it all up. Thankfully, the narrator was perfect and did an amazing job, which probably stopped me turning it off in the first half.

Good twist
The twist was good but took a while to get there. Repetitive 3/4 of the story which was a shame as the narration was really good. Would have liked more involvement from the other characters in the story.

Actually didn’t see that coming!
I can usually pick it but this has me right to end. Great story. Shame it’s more truth then fiction these days. Simon is that character you love to hate and Maryanne well….

Excellent story, incredible twists. I read it while holding my breath. So sad and scared for the main character.
