About this listen
Book 11 in the Gaunt's Ghosts Series
Given a vital mission and beset by vicious enemies from without and terrifying ghosts from within, the Tanith First must prepare to give their all - for only in death does duty end.
LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
Gaunt's Ghosts meet literal ghosts in a haunted house story that ties back into many events from the series so far, and gives the Tanith – and the reader – closure on some of the most tragic deaths...
THE STORY
The Sabbat Worlds Crusade has reached the fortress-world of Jago, and the Tanith First are given a vital – and dangerous – mission to defend a key pass against the enemy, garrisoned in an ancient mansion, the Hinzerhaus. Strange things are happening there. There are voices on the wind, and people are disappearing. With the enemy outside and ghosts within, Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and his men must face their fears – for only in death does duty end.
Written by Dan Abnett. Narrated by Toby Longworth. Run time 11hrs 29mins (approx).

The grimmest, darkest in the series so far
The Ghosts defend a "haunted house" against the forces of the Archenemy on a dry, dusty, desolate planet. The haunted house theme provides a constant source of both tension and mystery while the fight against Chaos leads to some action-packed battles in a harsh setting with limited supplies and reinforcements.
It's not a very cheerful book either. Death is a big theme, and the Ghosts are (thankfully) no longer so overpowered that they might as well be Space Marines.
The main downside is the huge cast with numerous narrators, which could be confusing if you are not up to date with the series. I probably wouldn't recommend it to someone new to the series, despite it being the best book of the series so far, in my opinion.

Throne of Terra!
This book is spectacular. It's the best book in a series of amazing books. There were multiple parts where I had to stop whatever I was doing to just listen and absorb what had either just happened or was taking place. Love it.

Only in Death, does Duty End.
The stories that Dan Abbnet has crafted with the Gaunts Ghosts books never cease to amaze me. And with this, it made me cry, not out of some kind of, "oh this is sad," but out of mourning. I felt those words, I felt that sadness, I felt it all because I felt I had lost a friend, but it was the right thing to do. Only in Death, does Duty End, and he's suffered enough.
10/10

Another fantastic addition to the series. I really loved the atmosphere. The location and the house were well described it was basically a movie. I can't wait to start the next one. Only in death does duty end...

Favourite of the series so far!
Great story that was really gripping and had me wondering what was going to happen next and wasn't disappointed with the ending at all. Also as usual Toby gives a fantastic performance.

Another great story about the Ghosts, doing everything they can to survive the worst situations.
Some really tight moments for the Ghosts in this one, taking them to the very edge
