About this listen

From the best-selling author of The Secrets of Us and The Best of Friends comes a novella of deceit, desperation, and how one little mistake can unravel a life.

When overwhelmed stay-at-home mom Alexis finds herself at odds with her husband after she’s charged with a DUI, she is given one chance to get her family back: complete AA and admit her faults. The problem is, she’s never had a drinking problem and has no idea what caused the blackout that led to her arrest. Still, she’s committed to working through the program, if that’s what it takes to be reunited with her two young children. But when she connects with a new friend, Farrah - a confident, successful powerhouse of a woman Alexis can’t help but idolize - she’s empowered to take a closer look at her husband’s role in her downfall. What she finds shocks her to her core, quickly spiraling into something more sinister than she ever imagined.

Really interesting

I really enjoyed this, I’d love to see what the author would do with the story in a full length book. There’s a lot more that could be developed with it and that’s the only issue I have, it felt skimpy. A bit more exploration would have made things seem more cohesive. But it was really enjoyable.

A tale of a couple, with young children, and what happens when a young Mom under duress, makes, what appears to be one stupid mistake.

A mistake that seeing her on the brink of losing her children and her husband.

All is not what it seems.

Short but decent

Was almost put off listening due to complaints about the ending. More to the imagination I'd say.

It's a somewhat predictable plot but I think it got the job done and no real complaints from me. Good short listen.

Sue Sydney

Really enjoyed this novella. I listened in one sitting. I also enjoyed Brittany’s narration. I might look for more books written by Lucinda Berry.

An entire book!

I never thought a full book could be written in a couple of hours and be filled out so completely.
Brilliantly written with a story that will keep you thinking.
Well done, Ms Berry! More please.

Left Wanting More

I enjoyed this, but I wanted to find out if Alexis won against her husband.
The narrator did a great job inflicting emotion into Alexis.
But this still ended too soon for me.

Predictable

I wouldn't say it was terrible, but it was all very predictable.
A little disappointing.

Hmmmm well....

Pros: It was Free and short
Cons: The author spent the entire story eluding to some kind of sinister complex reason for the story that was unfolding.. then completely skimmed past it at the end and focused on something completely different. I don't want to give anything away, but don't expect to have your mind blown with this one.
