Publisher's Summary
A bed posed on a stage under a dazzling spotlight. An audience of hungry eyes. And him, the other half of my soul, our supple bodies moving as one....
Sundara: the lush and forbidden oasis in the desert where men travel to watch acts of sexual deviancy, and the only existence 17-year-old Karys has ever known. But despite a life where secrets and sin are in high supply, and freedom remains far beyond their reach, Karys and her partner, Zakai, find safety in each other, their passionate love the light that helps them both survive the darkness.
Very suddenly, Karys and Zakai find themselves in the bright and confusing world of New York City, navigating separation, school, and relatives who are all but strangers. If they've been found, why do they still feel so lost? As their new lives threaten to drive them apart, and Zakai spins out of her grasp, Karys must figure out who and what can be trusted in this strange city, seemingly filled with more venom than the desert they once called home.

Beautifully Woven Love Story!
Once We Were Starlight is magical tale of love that bloomed in the harshest of conditions I was enchanted by the characters and Mia's Sheridan's beautifully woven story.
The narration was absolutely perfect. 5 🌟

Brilliant writing, amazing narrator!
I wouldn't describe this book as a love story, that wouldn't do it enough justice. It's so much more! It's magic and tragic intertwined. The story starts with love and family in an environment you don't expect to find any. The hard work to heal, start when they get rescued. The difficulties that both have to overcome, beautifully described from the female character's perspective.
I read the book before and I loved it then. But the female narrator makes it absolutely brilliant! She has a soothing voice. Rather than reading the book out loud, she tells the story. She had me hooked, from start to finish ❤️

Utterly mesmerising
Once again Mia Sheridan proves her prowess in sharing true love stories in the most unusual and unique circumstances. This is absolutely the most terrible of them yet still so beautiful and real. I don’t want to give too much away but I can utterly recommend this. It was the most remarkable listen I’ve had in my years of being addicted to Audiobooks.
