Publisher's Summary

When 30-year-old English teacher Anna Emerson is offered a job tutoring T.J. Callahan at his family's summer rental in the Maldives, she accepts without hesitation; a working vacation on a tropical island trumps the library any day.

T.J. Callahan has no desire to leave town, not that anyone asked him. He's almost 17 and if having cancer wasn't bad enough, now he has to spend his first summer in remission with his family - and a stack of overdue assignments - instead of his friends.

Anna and T.J. are en route to join T.J.'s family in the Maldives when the pilot of their seaplane suffers a fatal heart attack and crash-lands in the Indian Ocean. Adrift in shark-infested waters, their life jackets keep them afloat until they make it to the shore of an uninhabited island. Now Anna and T.J. just want to survive and they must work together to obtain water, food, fire, and shelter.

Their basic needs might be met but as the days turn to weeks, and then months, the castaways encounter plenty of other obstacles, including violent tropical storms, the many dangers lurking in the sea, and the possibility that T.J.'s cancer could return.

As T.J. celebrates yet another birthday on the island, Anna begins to wonder if the biggest challenge of all might be living with a boy who is gradually becoming a man.

Absolutely LOVED this book! Such a good story!

I’m so happy I found this book - well done to the author! I always feel most good books end just when things are getting to best part - this is where this author shines and keeps going with a very captivating and beautiful Love story. I also really appreciated the survival aspects on the island part of the story. Highly recommend. Loki g forward to more books from this talented author. The narrator has a beautiful voice and good story telling qualities, the only thing I would mention is that I had to reduce the speed I was listening to it - as she was just a tad fast for my liking. That’s minors though with modern technology! Enjoy this book - you won’t regret it!!

A good listen

A romantic story of survival. Enjoyed the story however it was spoiled by having only a female narrator. If you missed whose POV it was, it sometimes got confusing.
This story is good for those who want to read a love story without the author relating every detail about their sexual experiences.

Great Story. Shame about the Narrator

A lovely, realistic Romance. I have always fantasised about being on a deserted island with a beautiful woman. This story tells it warts and all and is a great representation of what it might really be like to be stranded in the ocean on an island. The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami is worked nicely into the story as well.
A great story but spoilt by the narrator. 1. I am not keen on American narrators. 2. This narrator read way to quickly. 3. The way that the story is written with alternating chapters between the two main characters Anna and TJ. It would have made sense to have a male and female reader/narrator. This has been done very successfully in other audio books. This narrator seems to have just raced through the story in an almost monotone high pitched American twang which was grating to the ears at times. I would much prefer an Australian or British narrator.
