About this listen
An io9 Can't Miss Science Fiction and Fantasy title in March 2014.
Martin Banks is just a normal guy who has made an abnormal discovery: he can manipulate reality, thanks to reality being nothing more than a computer program. With every use of this ability, though, Martin finds his little “tweaks” have not escaped notice. Rather than face prosecution, he decides instead to travel back in time to the Middle Ages and pose as a wizard.
What could possibly go wrong?
An American hacker in King Arthur’s court, Martin must now train to become a full-fledged master of his powers, discover the truth behind the ancient wizard Merlin…and not, y’know, die or anything.

What Ready Player One should have been.
This is how nerd stories should be written. It doesn't feel a need to explain it's references and assumes it's readers are familiar with some of it's more bizarre concepts. The only complaints I could have is that the revelation is so obvious that the characters actually make a joke about it.
The performance is very good. The narrator doesn't do female voices very well (there are only two female characters so it doesn't matter very much), but even with them he is able to create voices that allow you to understand exactly who the person is with just a single line.

Interesting play on simulated reality
A very interesting take on the genre, kind of sci-fi, historical fantasy.
I always chuckle at the terribly translated Esperanto, but they explained in the book that they understand that they're getting most of it wrong (Like using Flugis/falis instead of the infinitive Flugi/fali or "Mi banĉambro" instead of "Mia banĉambro")
It's interesting in how the characters interact and how they've made a clear magic system with limits, then try to stick to it (though I'm not sure how they moved a computer in one piece when they can't move a car in one piece even though the computer has more parts)
Anywho, all in all it's an enjoyable story and very well narrated.

Great little escape.
I feel like I listen to this about twice a year.
It feels like, as with the main character, that I get to escape for the day while I listen.
Wonderful performance that really makes you connect with the characters and make it so much easier to hate the bad guy.
Great performance by Luke Daniels.

leaves the premise feeling unexplored
Was looking for a lighthearted matrix , turned out to be a story about men playing wizards. Still enjoyed it , and great narration.

Good story, a few bugs
The audio of some of the characters voices was too quiet
why don’t the wizards all have private instance’s of the shell program

Great bit of tomfoolery.
First of all, this is an outstanding vocal performance. delivering a variety of persistent characters.
The plot is brilliant, lovely touch of humour throughout. A perfect addition to the 80s nostalgic geek sci-fi library.
