About this listen
Book five in the hugely successful zompoc series
En route to find their friends, Nina and Michael find so much more. After almost being killed by the Hell’s Highwaymen - a 50-strong motorcycle gang - Nina and Michael are forced to take refuge at their headquarters until Michael recovers. Finding a new purpose in life isn't easy, but Nina is realizing that she's stronger than she believes and needed more than she knows. At least that’s what Shooter - the brutish, blue-eyed president of the biker gang, keeps telling her.
Meanwhile, Mikey is trapped in the candy store. Phil is gone, so is O’Donnell, and who knows what’s happened to Ricky? All Mikey knows is that he’s in for a whole world of pain unless he can think of a way to escape before Tim and Clare turn him into their lunch.
With both of their lives hanging in the balance and heading in completely different directions, Nina and Mikey drift further apart. And it’s not just distance that separates them. Because when your fates keep pulling you away from one another, maybe it’s time to just call it a day and move on.

A great, if somewhat frustrating read
* Some spoilers below *
Let me start by saying that even though things didn't go how I wanted them to, I still really enjoyed this book. It had all of the customary twists and turns I've come to expect from this series. I really liked Nina's development in this book and found her less prone to tantrums and ridiculous behaviour (it was still there, just not as bad as she normally is). There were some great new secondary characters, particularly Shooter, the president of the MC where Nina is. The narration was great as always.
Now, for what I wasn't as fussed on (still loved it, though!) and here come spoilers. Nina and Mikey are still not reunited. There are love interests on the radar for both of them and this broke my heart, especially when it became physical. I fell in love with this series because of Nina and Mikey being together so while I loved the plot, I want them together and for at least some of the story to focus on them. They almost appeared to have forgotten about each other. A good chunk of the story is told from O'Donnell's point of view which was a good take, but again, not who I want. I love her character, but I don't want her with Mikey.
Anyway, hopefully there'll be more Nina and Mikey in the next book. It was still a great read and I can't wait to start the next one.
