Publisher's Summary
Fortune favors...the dead!
Some secrets are too horrific to ever be forgiven, and some people should never be trusted.
Tortured, starved, and on the run, Nina thinks she's faced the worst that mankind has to offer, but she's wrong. She may have survived this long, but she hasn't come out of it unscathed, and there's worse to come.
Nina's trusty Doc Martens are showing signs of the zombie apocalypse, and she isn't faring much better. With her snarky attitude guaranteed to get her in trouble, Nina needs to forgive the past, to live once more in the present, and learn that sometimes she needs to place her trust in other people.
Because when people are faced with the end of times, they'll do anything to survive.

A new refuge
Nina, Mikey and Emily are once again on the run after suffering under the Forgotten. Mikey is battling his own demons and is determined to keep Nina safe. While at the end of their tether, they come across a refuge of sorts. When Nina is selected to go scavenging, things take a turn for the worse, affecting her and Mikey's life for the worse.
As with its predecessor, it's difficult to outline the story without revealing too many spoilers. Life continues to be a battle and just when things seem to be on the up, the author throws everything into a tailspin. Mikey continues to be delicious and Emily a bit naive but developing as a character. The only slightly negative thing I had with this book was that I found Nina pretty nasty and selfish at times, especially towards Mikey. I get she's been through a lot, but hello, get in line.
The narration of this continued to be solid and if you liked Book One, you'll like this one, too. There's a few chapters where the point of view is given from two random characters. This makes sense towards the end and the plot takes another twist. I really enjoyed it and will definitely be continuing with the next book in the series.
