About this listen
Damien thought his exams would be bad enough. Then his mother collapsed with a failing heart.
In a desperate move Damien throws himself into the Streamer Contest of Saga Online, the latest fantasy VR-MMORPG. Winning will provide the funds for his mom’s surgery. Yet early betrayal and a close run in with a vampire almost ruin his attempt before he even begins.
Stuck at the bottom of a dungeon with no gear, no allies and little hope, Damien must embrace the undiscovered Occultist class, master control of his new demon companions and take the contest by storm. His plan is simple enough. Topple the most famous player in Saga Online.
Summon your imps. Prepare for battle!

decently entertaining
pretty much what you would expect from this sort of novel, 15 hours of entertainment based around a fictional (and unrealistic) virtual reality rpg. if you enjoy this sort of novel then it's worth listening to, if not then probably don't bother. there's nothing overly new or game changing, just a decently written story.

Slow Start Great Ending
The MC is unrealistically dumb at times but this story has all the elements to make it great.
And while it has a lot of sad undertones it finishes on a great note that leaves you feeling satisfied.

Listen to it in one sitting!
Occultist starts in-game with a new Virtual Reality MMO (VR-MMORPG) in the near future with a 16-year-old trying to balance his gaming and real-life stuff. I can’t go to what happened but wow! The roller-coaster ride Mr Mayes takes the reader on is amazing. The rich MMO with a dictatorial feel of an over-corporatized real world and a touch of viral social media sets the stage for many complications for the MC, Damien.
Being taken on a non-stop exciting adventure which spans both realities was brilliant. I could not help yelling my encouragement to Damien as he jumps through the muddy plot created by Mr Mayes.
Two surprising supporting characters are two AI’s in the MMO, Bartholomew and Noigel. I would love to go into why they are both so fabulous, but you will have to read the book (it is a little spoilery).
Just like to also shout out to the narrator, Adam Sims. He gave birth to this amazing book. I had many chuckles as he superbly narrated this book.
All I can say it is, if you love World of Warcraft or Dungeons and Dragons or love a good fantasy novel then this book is for you!

Gaming Genre Done Right!
I've listened to a few books were idea is about being in a gaming world. so not a new concept but one of the best I've heard. The focus is perfectly balanced between gaming and realism. well done!
