About this listen
A groundbreaking new translation of Dostoyevsky's most radical work of fiction. In the depths of a cellar in St. Petersburg, a civil servant spews forth a passionate and furious note on the ills of society. The underground man's manifesto reveals his erratic, self-contradictory, and even sadistic nature. Yet in Dostoyevsky's most extreme and disturbing character, there is the uncomfortable flicker of recognition of the human condition. When the narrator ventures above ground, he attends a dinner with a group of old school friends. It is here, paralysed by his own social awkwardness, that he carries out extraordinary acts and cements his status as a true and original outsider.
The reader D.B.C. Pierre is an award-winning writer who has also written and recorded a new introduction to this famous text.

A worthwhile listen
Chapter 15 and 24 seemed the most relevant to my perspective. This story should be read in conjunction with the other books written by Dostoyevsky. Interesting book overall

Remarkable
Remarkable insight into the inner machinations of the devilish mind. A mind that operates in us all to a degree.

A glimpse into a maniacal and self deluded mind
An interesting book about a person’s nihilistic views, pride and ego. His life is a train wreck of his own cause and sadly this is something that everyone has (at very least) a little inside of them.

Simply the best
I now want to go back and re rate all of my favourite books from 5 stars back to 4. Nothing compares to the brilliance of Doestoyevsky. This powerful and succinct summary of the essence of humanity will never be paralleled. The base case for life is misery and any action we take is to divert our attention from it. The Underground is the place we all exist when our eyes are shut and silence abounds. Mandatory reading for all in any age but particularly in the troubled utopian times in which we now live.

this book is amazing, although you have to focus on the first part because it could be difficult to understand.
