About this listen
Their marriage lasted only slightly longer than the honeymoon - to no one's surprise, not even Bryony Asquith's. A man as talented, handsome, and sought after by society as Leo Marsden couldn't possibly want to spend his entire life with a woman who rebelled against propriety by becoming a doctor. Why, then, three years after their annulment and half a world away, does he track her down at her clinic in the remotest corner of India?
Leo has no reason to think Bryony could ever forgive him for the way he treated her, but he won't rest until he's delivered an urgent message from her sister - and fulfilled his duty by escorting her safely back to England. But as they risk their lives for each other on the journey home, will the biggest danger be the treacherous war around them - or their rekindling passion?

A gem of a love story
Admittedly I struggled for the first 10 minutes and almost quit it, but am ever so glad to have persevered. As the story is fleshed out and backstory exposed, the emotions and behaviour of this couple become clear and understandable. The weird and cold Bryony is humanised, and enigmatic Leo is <manly, adoring and adorable in my humble opinion!>. The themes of unquestioned and unspoken truths resulting in relationship breakdown, second chances and rediscovered love are relatable and common through any era. I was wowed by this love story and had to wipe away an occasional tear.

not your average historical romance
This book was the ultimate second chance at love. I really felt terribly sad a lot of the time throughout this book but that for me was what made it so different. There was not easy fix, no 5 minute get over it and get along to the good bits. Remains are hard work often filled with misunderstanding, lack of proper communicating and human error. Forgiveness can be the hardest obstacle of both your partner and yourself. Ultimately I found this book full of hope in that love will find a way and sometimes love is enough.
