Publisher's Summary
He needs to find his father.
Dr. Nate Hunter simply wants to be left alone in his lab, but the disappearance of his father in the Alaskan bush makes that an impossibility. When Nate finds coordinates tucked away in his dad's papers, he has to take the investigation into his own hands to protect his family.
She needs to find a killer.
State trooper Freya Ashby already has a lot on her plate when she and her avalanche rescue K9, Xena, are assigned to Dr. William Hunter's disappearance. His son, Nate, is her last one-night stand and a complication she doesn’t need…especially after she finds him standing over a dead man.
They are racing against the clock.
Battling the dangerous geography and an attraction that could derail them both, Nate and Freya must find Dr. Hunter before the trail goes as cold as the terrain. But as the clues pile up and point towards soft-spoken and insanely sexy Dr. Nathaniel Hunter, Freya has to decide if he is the killer…or the killer's next target?

dysfunctional family and scary mystery
This is one of the first series ive listened to where family is not trusting of each other, loving or loyal. They are so dysfunctionally damaged that none of them trust each other or others. It's very different with a never-ending litany of crippling baggage. I thought Tonya had started to write herself into a corner as there was too much mental anguish, I just had to listen on.
Tage is a jacknut. The storyline he follows is so typical for the black and white attitude of the police force, and I struggled to like him.
As for the h , I struggled to like, empathise, and admire her. She was too wishy, washy for me. Hop scotching from one side to the other, and then I did a 180, and I felt devastated by her story.
I was beginning to get frustrated with the plot, I needed to find out.
Tonya has done a great job of creating characters that evoked different emotions from me.
I just loved the dogs in each book. Especially peanut. But in this book, Xena is brilliant.
The H was a suprise character. In book 1, he came across as a quiet, somewhat damaged, pensive man. But nope, my eyes bugged. however, he became a pretty lovestruck alpha at the end
And then the ugly mystery reared up and slapped me. The twist was brilliant. My anxiety ramped up as it ended. But it still left a loose end.
I so enjoyed the way book 3 was introduced. I think Damien is going to have bigger twists than book 1 and larger turns than book 2.
Stephen Borne outdid himself as he added another characters voice to the series.
I'm looking forward to book 3.

Really enjoyed this story
Loved the story… enjoyed the family still involved. The narrator does a great job. Wish the story went double the time… too short. Really liked the lead characters, all main characters actually.

Well written, great storyline
loved the book 1 and also book 2. It makes me want to start on the last book right away.
Narrated well and family and dogs keep getting better which surprises me. Lots of twist and turns. Great story.
