Publisher's Summary

Nolan Cash was born in Kingsland, Arkansas, on October 8, 1939, seven years after his cousin, Johnny. The bi-racial product of a rape by a Black man of a 16-year-old Christian girl in America's conservative Bible Belt, he experienced extreme prejudice growing up during the racially divided '50s. His opportunity for country music stardom beckoned when he witnessed an event that inspired him to write the song that would change his life - the church massacre at Bowling Green.

What happened next might have come straight from the pages of a Hollywood political thriller. Nolan was charged with treason and hidden in the prison system with a new identity, his secret about that event in Bowling Green buried with him. Only the 50-year disclosure on official secrets - CIA documents recently released - enabled the facts to finally emerge.

Here, then, is the story of Nolan Cash, collateral damage in America's struggle to move away from racist division.
