About this listen

No Obvious Cause is the second instalment in the Dublin Murder mystery series and will appeal to fans of authors such as Peter James, L. J. Ross and Ruth Rendall.

A murder followed by a series of random, motiveless crimes leaves Detective Garda Sergeant Mike West and his team puzzled. When Edel Johnson arrives at the scene of a crime Mike is taken aback, more so when he discovers she is now working with a victim support group. He has feelings for her, but he is the garda who investigated her husband's murder, and their relationship is complicated.

With crime in Dublin’s suburbs at an all-time high and his superiors breathing down his neck, West doesn't need the distraction.

But someone wants Edel out of the way, and it's up to West to find out who....

I listened to the first book, and in hopes of improved narration, listened to the second. But the narrator is so monotone and stop start that it makes it very difficult to hold concentration. I’ve had to go back and relisten so chapters so many times because it’s so easy to zone out and makes it hard to keep a track of the details. Which is a shame because the story itself is excellent.

Great story, terrible narrator.

A very interesting series and a genre that I love to listen to and read. Great characters, storylines and how they interact with following leads on finding those who committed crimes. Narrator is easily understood and listening to whose also ideal listening to while trying to sleep

Great

2nd book as good as first. Great if you like a good twisty detective story without too much horror and grisly detail but good character development. I'll be straight into the next. Think they may have been around a while but new to me.

Shaping up to be a great series

I liked a flawed, bad tempered, petulant policeman for a change. A few good jokes too. Plot was a bit far fetched but I’ll read the next.

Good listen.
