Good story, but poor performance
This is the 4th book in the series. I’ve found all stories enjoyable - there is good continuity between each one, if going on the written word. Unfortunately, there has been a change of narrator with each book in the series, leading to marked differences in the way characters are presented over time. The performance in this book was particularly disappointing. Many of the characters are French, but the narrator’s French accent was poorly crafted, sometimes veering into an Asian accent. One female character who features in every book (Anglo-Indian upper class heritage, highly educated) presented in this performance with a strong AngloIndian accent delivered with somewhat comical intonation - almost like a parody. As the character only appeared occasionally, I tried not to be irritated, but found it difficult to avoid feelings of annoyance, as the narrator repeatedly adopted an arch and/or wry tone, across characters, often quite out of keeping with the emotional content of the words. My heart sank when I realised that the same narrator performs the next three books in the series
