Publisher's Summary
From number one best-selling author Toni Maguire comes a new true story of abuse and survival.
'This is my story, though our personal stories are not ours alone, are they? Small children have no say in the direction their lives take. Even before they have learnt to walk and talk, they are trained to obey the demands of those charged with their care.'
Daisy-May Jones was four years old when she was told by her parents the family was moving halfway across the world to Australia for a better life. Leaving everything behind, including her beloved grandparents, Daisy-May spent a happy and secure few years adapting to a new life. But after the breakdown of her parent's marriage, she stepped into a nightmare as her mother introduced a new step-father to her and her disabled brother.
What followed was years of sexual, physical and emotional abuse. Obsessed with manipulating Daisy-May and her sexual education, her step-father continued to abuse her until she was 15 years old. All alone in 150 acres of wilderness, Daisy's only wish was to return home to her grandparent's and their love. Eventually, she managed to do so and now works in mental health, supporting others who have been sexually abused and helping them plan their way forward.

Great Book
This was a great book and although easy to follow, was also a little hard to get a grip on the different parts.

Somewhat unbelievable in parts……
Somewhat unbelievable in parts. How did her boyfriend know about the police visiting Ned? What kind of caring boyfriend finds out that their girlfriend may have been sexually abused whilst a child and yet says nothing and offers no support at all whilst secretly knowing about it? She states she lived in Australia and yet says that Bendigo is a suburb of Melbourne, which I found rather comical! Bendigo is a regional town nearly 2hrs away from Melbourne! She goes on to say many Australians wish to go to the UK to find their family roots. I’ve lived in Australia all my life and none of my family, friends, work mates, school friends or any of their families or friends have ever wanted to go to the UK, actually out of all the people I know no one has gone near there and usually other countries are far more appealing for them to visit. Has this girl ever really been to Australia? Her boyfriend wants to start a life in freezing cold UK away from his family who obviously must not have been much chop for him to want to get away from them so eagerly. Too many parts of this story like those I’ve mentioned sound a bit fictional, so much so that it makes those parts rather comical.

Not good
Very disappointed in this.
Has anyone bothered to research Australia…..Bendigo is nowhere near Melbourne. It’s a town probably 2 hours drive away!
The story was not well told either. Is it really a true story??
