About this listen
“A book about a rare life, profound love, profound grief, anxiety, self-assurance, empowerment, aging, loss, and joy. It is nuanced, complex, insightful, helpful, and constantly surprising.”—Ann Patchett, New York Times bestselling author of These Precious Days
Writer and former model Paulina Porizkova pens a series of intimate, introspective, and enlightening essays about the complexities of womanhood at every age, pulling back the glossy magazine cover and writing from the heart.
AN OPEN FIELD PUBLICATION FROM MARIA SHRIVER
Born in Cold War Czechoslovakia, Paulina Porizkova rose to prominence as a model, appearing on her first Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover in 1984. As the face of Estée Lauder in 1989, she was one of the highest-paid models in the world. When she was cast in the music video for the song “Drive” by The Cars, it was love at first sight for her and frontman Ric Ocasek. He was forty at the time, and Porizkova was nineteen. The decades to come would bring marriage, motherhood, a budding writing career; and later sadness, loneliness, isolation, and eventually divorce. Following her ex-husband’s death—and the revelation of a deep betrayal—Porizkova stunned fans with her fierce vulnerability and disarming honesty as she let the whole world share in her experience of being a woman who must start over.
This is a wise and compelling exploration of heartbreak, grief, beauty, aging, relationships, re-invention and finding your purpose. In these essays, Porizkova bares her soul and shares the lessons she’s learned—often the hard way. After a lifetime of being looked at, she is ready to be heard.

Authentic, worts & all, informative, fun
I listened to this fantastic book in 2 days - and only wish it was longer. Paulina narrates in a gentle yet firm way parts of her life story & lessons learned - things she wishes she could have told a 19-year old self. I know she loves her ex husband Ric Ocasek & he was a creative soul - but I am SO SORRY she had to go through the shock of being left with little after Rick had died & wrote her out of his Will, She brought millions of $ into that marriage - yet at the age of 53 had to sell her home she could no longer afford etc. Paulina is very strong yet VERY gentle & humble at the same time. She is now a fully-grown woman and I am so excited to have read the book as, I believe, she is a TRUTHFUL voice of women of my generation. THANK YOU, Polinooshka, for being so honest & so humble. Know that you have a TRUE friend in Australia - if you ever come to Brisbane! I hope more people read or listen to this book. I will now buy a paper copy as I want to keep it for my teenage daughter to read when she is a tad older. Love this book on so many levels!

Shared wisdom for all ages
Growing up I was captivated by the original super models, Paulina was one of my favourites. Being from Eastern Europe made her more relatable and authentic.
Her story is filled with truth that we tend to brush over, ignore or pretend it never happened. The images of Paulina always inspired me, she appeared to have the look of a happy, successful and in control woman.
The reflection on her journey in modelling and public life caught me off guard, the public life I imagined wasn’t her reality.
The fact she has shared her truth and reality is eye opening and at times shocking. I’m grateful that she has shared her experiences, her wisdom and encourage, it’s an incredible insight into a world that any young future model to listen to.
Pauline’s grief is felt, her happiness and continued learning and growth should be applauded.
Thank you for once again putting yourself out in the public so that we can all learn to be better.

A stunning book written so beautifully
This book breaks so many myths and is just beautiful. There is so much poetry between the story telling and so many take aways. This is a book to be purchased to keep in the library and handed to a friend when you know they need Paulina's wisdom in their life. This book will stay with me forever. "If you're there in the dark rocking and mooing know I am there - your company." Paulina Porizkova

This book is for women of any age
Paulina is similar age to me yet I don’t really remember her from her modeling days. I found this book captivating. I read it because she’s women I was told was a model ageing whilst avoiding the pressures of the beauty industry. Her chapter on heartaches I could identify with being widowed followed by a relationship that broke my heart. Occupied was intriguing and Every women is beautiful is food for thought.
She is a wonderful writer. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Very Interesting Life Story
Really enjoyed the book. An amazing life as told by (in my opinion) the most beautiful and down to earth supermodel ever.
I was shocked by a lot, and the book reminded me that we all have our struggles. We are all just trying to find our way as best we know how. AND when we learn better, we can do better.
It was a real pleasure to hear it read by Paulina herself, having a Czechoslovakian father I related to her childhood
