About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
The empowering new way to discover your multifaceted mind.
Do you long to break free from a stuck part of you - the inner critic, 'monkey mind', a bad habit or an addiction? What if there was a way to approach those aspects of you, to free you from the constant inner struggle and find true healing?
In this groundbreaking international bestseller, Dr Richard Schwartz reveals that we are each born with an 'internal family' of distinct parts within us. Some of our parts can become trapped in destructive patterns, but learning to relate to each of them with curiosity, respect and empathy can vastly expand our capacity to heal.
The Internal Family Systems (IFS) model will help you challenge the destructive behaviour of these parts, turn the ego, the inner critic and the saboteur into powerful allies, and allow you to return to a more whole and harmonious 'Self'.
Critic Reviews
'Dr Richard Schwartz articulates and deftly illustrates his Internal Family Systems model, one of the most innovative, intuitive, comprehensive, and transformational therapies to have emerged in the present century.' - Gabor Maté, MD, author of In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction

Great material, Simply written.
I read this book on my Kindle, and once I finished the written version, I bought the audiobook on Audible so I could listen to it on the go. The material in this book is fantastic, and I'd recommend its wisdom to anyone willing to listen and take it to heart. It presents a very compassionate and empathetic approach to therapy that one can apply in their life right away. I really resonate with Internal Family Systems' notion of the "Self," which I personally choose to think of as the "Soul." IFS provides a structured framework for healing. At its core, IFS is non-judgmental and embraces the notion that there are no bad people; the only reason people do bad things is to avoid pain or suffering. And that, if you unburden someone from their pain or suffering, they will once more become a benevolent and good person.

Read the first book, this is nonsense.
Read the first book on ifst from 2020, this book is nonsense and must have been written when he was high on ketamine. It completely undoes all the work that went into the original book and this book makes ifst seem like a bad joke.
He launches into tirades badmouthing trump, and goes frequently on a tangent about how he wants to heal the world and the climate. He then tells us about how great it’s been for him using ketamine. About halfway through the book he seems to have forgotten what to write about, so then rehashes over the same points, his dislike for trump, and the climate again, etc.
The narrator does his best, and in this book there are exercises from the author himself, which are not that badly done, even with all the warnings not to do the exercises, it seems a little odd to include them.
If you are interested in ifs therapy - read the first book as it does well to explain the systems and how to approach each system. It’s written in a more appropriate format, and would suit anyone who wants to take it seriously.
If you know a bit about ifst already and want to further your understanding from what you thought was a credible author, don’t get this book. It will completely change your opinion of this guy and ifst, and make you wonder if he got his phd from a cereal box.
