About this listen
A collection of tales to invade and paralyse the mind as the safe light of day is infiltrated by the shadows of the night. As you listen, the clutching fingers of terror brush lightly across the nape of the neck, reach round from behind to clutch and lock themselves, white-knuckled, around the throat.
This is the horror of ordinary people and everyday objects that become strangely altered; a world where nothing is ever quite what it seems, where the familiar and the friendly lure and deceive. A world where madness and blind panic become the only reality.
Includes the stories "Jerusalem's Lot", "Graveyard Shift", "Night Surf", "I Am The Doorway", "The Mangler", "The Boogeyman", "Gray Matter", "Battleground", "Sometimes They Come Back", "Strawberry Spring", "The Ledge", "The Lawnmower Man", "Quitters, Inc.", "I Know What You Need", "The Last Rung on the Ladder", "The Man Who Loved Flowers", "One For The Road" and "The Woman in the Room".

Great short story collection but…
Why is this only ‘selections’? Why are there 3 missing stories? Especially Children of the Corn?
John Glover is a truely talented artist.

Brilliant- Night Shift Selections.
These short story’s pack a nasty little punch right to your fears, they tickle and poke your self doubt and make you question if you are indeed scared.
Without the need of gore and violence, the layered descriptions and language really nestle inside of your mind.
I’d recommend listening to them of an evening while it’s dark and quiet to get the most spine tingling for your dollar.
Also nice stories for kids if they are into that kind of thing.

incidental music is not necessary or desirable
This was a great listen, except for the incidental music. it is unnecessary for Stephen King as his brilliance shines out without the need to add atmosphere using music. It would have been OK except that the incidental music completely drowned out the voice of the narrator at certain times. if there must be music, can the level be lowered so we can still hear the narrator?

not the best of the Stephen King books
I love Stephen King novels but I guess short stories are not my thing. I was left wanting in a lot of cases and just didn't really get what the author was trying to achieve with some of the stories. The voice performance was excellent and kept me interested.

Heartstopping, Enthralling. An Audible Must Have.
How to describe Night Shift: Selection, read by John Glover. Two words come to mind, Radio Theatre.
Mixing the story telling talents of Stephen king with John's beautiful entrancing performance is a quick way to step right into a Twilight Zone / Tales From The Crypt episode.
While not all the stories resonated with me personally, the hit rate on being narratively invested in these characters and drawn into their small worlds is impressive and never once did I step away from the performance due to quality or dragging.
This has now become my go-to recommendation for anyone trying out audio books or that have been scared off by flat readings or the fear of over committing to a standard Stephen King novel.

A few stories missing from the book....
Where is Children of the Corn? Enjoyed this greatly but sad it wasn’t complete. Great performances.

Excellent set of stories and narration
One of King's finest collections of short stories. John Glover's narration, command of accent and ability to ratchet up tension is masterful. The light musical accompaniment in some stories is welcomed too.

Missing stories
This audiobook is missing both “I am the doorway” and “one for the road” not sure why is they are both outlined in the description. It’s a shame as one for the road is one of my favourites. This book still had some great stories however I do prefer the audiobook nightmares and dreamscapes.

good stories
good old stories from Stephen King.
Would have been so much better without the background music.

Good range
good range of stories. I hated the music, really detracted from the narrative for me.
