Publisher's Summary

From New York Times best-selling author Jay Kristoff comes a dangerous new fantasy world and a heroine edged in darkness.

Mia Corvere is only 10 years old when she is given her first lesson in death.

Destined to destroy empires, the child raised in shadows made a promise on the day she lost everything: to avenge herself on those that shattered her world.

But the chance to strike against such powerful enemies will be fleeting, and Mia must become a weapon without equal. Before she seeks vengeance, she must seek training among the infamous assassins of the Red Church of Itreya.

Inside the church's halls, Mia must prove herself against the deadliest of opponents and survive the tutelage of murderers, liars and daemons at the heart of a murder cult.

The church is no ordinary school. But Mia is no ordinary student.

Critic Reviews

"A brain-churning, gore-splattered monster of a book." (Daily Mail)

"With a delicate balance of the ancient and the magical, this tense and brutal tale is unflinching, thrilling and satisfying." (Publishers Weekly)

"Joins lyrical high fantasy, Pratchett-like humour and unflinching descriptions of violence.... Something special." (SciFi Now)

Thoroughly Enjoyable

Overall this book is pretty derivative but some how pulls it all together into a very enjoyable package.

The performance is excellent, the voice actor is actually entertaining to listen to and speaks with a certain cadences that enhances the satire and has a decent range for all the characters he voices.

The Story? Well the world is very derivative of ancient Rome with a touch of dark fantasy, the main antagonist is basically Julius Ceaser. This book is full of all those fantasy tropes that have been done but if you enjoy fantasy, gentle friends? Then this book is definitely for you.

5 stars

Kristoff writes with a blade not a pen.
Nevernight is shockingly sharp and beautifully paced as the story, world and backstory unfolds.

Clever writing, great narration

I was skeptical of a male narrator for a female main character but the writing is genius. The story is a bit slow in the beginning and there are some confusing parts, but overall it’s a great book, highly recommend

Great Book with a strong female protagonist so a man reading it detracted from it

Loved the story, world setting and characters. The narrator was good in the male parts but the way he read the female parts detracted from their strong characters, which was really disappointing. I would love a version of this read by a woman - Jodie Comer would be awesome!

Well performed, fantastic tale that doesn't hold back. Not for the faint hearted. Loved it and recommend it to adults that like their fantasy with hard edges
