Publisher's Summary
Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Never Look Back by Lesley Pearse, read by Holli Dempsey.
One good deed takes her into another world . . .
Sixteen-year-old Matilda is a poor Covent Garden flower girl until the day she saves the life of Tabitha, a minister's daughter. Welcomed into Tabitha's family, Matilda is offered the chance of a lifetime.
She leaves behind London's slums and enters the darkest corners of New York. From there she travels across the plains to the Wild West, where San Francisco is in the grip of the gold rush.
Streetwise and strong-willed, Matilda forges a new life for herself and Tabitha among pioneers like Captain James Russell - a man to whom she is deeply attracted. Yet a civil war will soon rip apart this new nation.
Can Matilda and those she loves brave separation and carry on, never looking back?

Couldn't stop listening
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found myself listening at every opportunity. Countless times I felt like nothing more could possibly happen to the main character, only to be surprised and drawn in even further. It's a moving story that get you really feeling for It's characters.

A fabulous history lesson on the settling of America in the 1800s.
A well researched history book wrapped around a love story. American accents are always a bit hard to suffer for a kiwi girl but they were well done all the same. Not as predictable as you would think but a good tale to keep one reading. A very long book which I managed in long listening periods at a time. For anyone who likes this way of learning history and geography it ticks some boxes.

Lovely story - great narator!
Really enjoyed this book - nice story (quite long and a bit repetitive with a lot of people dying). Narator is amazing!
