About this listen

The much-anticipated and inspiring memoir by Indra Nooyi, the trailblazing former CEO of PepsiCo, offering clear-eyed insight and a call to action for how our society can really blend work and family - and advance women - in the 21st century.

For more than a dozen years as one of the world's most admired CEOs, Indra Nooyi redefined what it means to be an exceptional leader. The first woman, person of colour and immigrant to run a Fortune 50 company - and one of the foremost strategic thinkers of our time - Nooyi transformed PepsiCo with a unique vision, a vigorous pursuit of excellence and a deep sense of purpose. Now, in a rich memoir brimming with grace, grit and good humour, My Life in Full offers a firsthand view of a legendary career and the sacrifices it so often demanded.

In her book, Nooyi shares the events that shaped her - from her childhood in 1960s India, to the Yale School of Management, to her rise as a consultant and corporate strategist who soon ascended into the most senior executive ranks. The book offers an intimate look inside PepsiCo, detailing how she steered the iconic American company toward healthier products and reinvented its environmental profile without curbing financial performance - despite resistance at every turn.

At the same time, Nooyi built a home with her husband - also a high-powered executive - two daughters and members of her extended family. My Life in Full includes her unvarnished take on the competing pressures on her attention and time, and what she learned along the way. This book, as has her personal journey, will inspire young women everywhere to believe that they, too, can climb to powerful roles without giving up on the desire for a family and children. But, as Nooyi eloquently argues, her story is not a call for women to simply try harder, but is proof of the importance of organised care structures in all of our success. Nooyi makes a clear, actionable, urgent call for business and government to prioritise the care ecosystem, from skilled care networks to zoning policy, to paid leave and flexible and predictable work hours, each so critical to unleashing the economy's full potential and helping families thrive.

Generous, authoritative and grounded in lived experience, My Life in Full is both the story of an extraordinary leader's life and a moving tribute to the relationships that created it.

Critic Reviews

With candour and good humour, Nooyi has written a wonderful book that brings her story to life, from her early years in India, surrounded by love and high expectations, to her determined efforts to succeed in the corporate world, all the while questioning the trade-offs she had to make. She reveals just how our society continues to sacrifice talent instead of changing how we organize work to maximize everyone's potential to live full and productive lives. A must-read for working women and the men who work with us, love us and support us. (Hillary Rodham Clinton)
Gritty, joyous, and visionary, Nooyi tells the story of an everyday person living an extraordinary life, leading beautifully and confidently from the front. A must-read for all. (Ursula M. Burns, former chair and CEO of Xerox, author of Where You Are Is Not Who You Are)
'CEO' and 'care' do not usually go together, but for Indra Nooyi, they always have. Rather than offering us a list of policy prescriptions, she shows us what is possible when businesses care about family and families have time to care for one another. (Anne-Marie Slaughter, CEO of New America, author of Unfinished Business)
We have so much to learn from Nooyi's remarkable story and wisdom on lifting up girls and women in the decades to come. She shares a great road map for anyone who aspires to merge social change with leading a large organization. (Matt Damon, actor, screenwriter, producer)
Nooyi's honesty, integrity, and humour shine through at every turn. Truly inspiring. (Mindy Kaling, actor, writer, producer, director)
An extraordinary window into the life, career, and family of a brilliant business strategist. A terrific addition to the story of American business. (Brian Cornell, CEO of Target Corp.)
An amazing read, filled with lessons, optimism, warmth, and heart, about an extraordinary woman who rose to be a fantastic role model for all women. (Sofia Vergara, actor)

Indra Nooyi …. my lifetime idol

Indra Nooyi has been someone I have followed all my life and wanting to be like her. Following her all this time I always felt she was a different cutout above all …by intellect… that she is but listening to her story in her own words told by her was a surreal experience of knowing she is an ordinary human being with ordinary challenges likes us but who had extraordinary responses and actions to those challenges. Makes me believe I can achieve something. And makes me want to meet her in person so desperately… ❤️

Vanilla and insipid

I have looked up to Indra as an Indian woman who made it in the corporate world. This book reads like a corporate report. It has no real examples of the effort or struggles that an immigrant woman faces to
Make it in the world of work. Either Indra led a charmed existence or she glossed over the struggles. Either way she lost a follower.
