About this listen

Miss Katherine Danvers has always been a wallflower. But now with her family on the brink of financial ruin, she finds herself a desperate wallflower. To save her family, she'll do anything. Luckily, she has the perfect plan....

She'll impress the ton by simply announcing she is engaged to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, and secure strong matches for her sisters. No one has heard from the duke in years. Surely he'll never find out before her sisters' weddings and she can go back to her own quiet life.

Soon, though, everything is out of control. At first, it's just a few new ball gowns on the duke's accounts. Then it's interviews with reporters eager for gossip. Before she knows it, Katherine has transformed herself into Kitty Danvers, charming and clever belle of the ton - with everyone eager to meet her thankfully absent fiance.

But when the enigmatic Alexander Masters suddenly arrives in the city, dashing and oh so angry, he demands retribution. Except not in the way Katherine expected....

Contains mature themes.

Suspenseful gothic narration

I didnt have too much expectation, reviews making it seemed less appealing.
However,
Im so please i jumped into such a infectious storyline with great narration in more a romantic suspense style - dont overthink the listening to find fault.

I think we just used to having Male narration bias for angsty reads.

i will relisten with keeness

Great book

Great book with a story that slowly builds tension and intrigue between the characters.

The biggest negative was the narration. The cadence was odd and distracted from the story as well as the quiet whispering tone that made it difficult to hear

LOVED the story but the narrator.....terrible

This is my second time listening to this story and I love Kitti and Alexander's story just as much as the first time. The story of 2 lonely souls falling in love. It is a bit of a sad story but such a lovely story. I do love that Stacy isn't afraid to write about characters with disabilities, in this case a wheelchair.

I wish Stacy had used Madeleine Leslay (I believe that was how her name was spelt) with this series. Mary Sarah was terrible, though I do own you get used to her the narration by the end and it doesn't grate on you as much.

I own I would still listen to this audio book again, not because it's told well but because I love the story.

Loved this!

This is exactly what you'd expect. Lovely story presented with an amazing performance. Loved the readers accent, was perfect for this story. This was a fabulous historical romance with a nice take on the MFC. If you like historical romance you can't go wrong with this story.

This narrator is shocking

Gosh where to start on the narrator. Accents that dip in and out, inconsistent voices and mispronunciations and over pronunciations that really grate. She sounds like an inconsistent Moira Rose from Schitts Creek but not in a fun way.

Nice story, terrible narration

I found the story enjoyable. The writing was fine, but the narration was truly awful, in a truly bizarre way. I stopped halfway through, and started reading instead of listening.

Great story

This was a great story. The awkward accent and slow, overly dramatic narration really made it difficult to get through though.

Good book, dreadful narration

I really liked the story, one of Stacy Reid's best. But what was wrong with the narrator? She ruined it with that silly affected voice.

Great story spoiled by narration

Loved the story and characters, however really struggled with the narration, particularly in the first hour or so when the whispering nature of the narrative made it extremely difficult to hear certain words. I did eventually get used to it but found myself having to rewind often just to glean what had been said. Unfortunately, I am likely to avoid other books in the series and any others by the same narrator.
