About this listen
Shaun O’Gorman knows what it’s like to suffer from PTSD, depression, and to battle with suicide. He served a 13-year career as a police officer including nine years as a Police K9 handler. The violence, death, and depravity he saw people perpetrate against each other had a lasting effect on him. It culminated with him lying in bed, with a Glock pistol in hand, trying to find a reason not to end his life. This ended the police career he had dreamed of since he was a child.
For a man coming from a police family where his father served for 42 years this was devastating. The loss of identity was one of the hardest parts to deal with. Shaun couldn’t find anyone who could help him out of the hole he was in, so he spent the next 20 years educating himself on how to beat PTSD and depression. He now takes the lessons learned to help other police, military and first responders deal with the trauma their duties expose them to. He strongly believes that it is possible to prepare yourself for what you will experience in your career to prevent you experiencing what he did. His purpose in life is to help people and make a difference.
Through his business The Strong Life Project, Shaun teaches men how to prepare for the difficulties they will experience in their life. His passion is teaching men to be the best version of themselves possible. Shaun has a strong belief that as men we have lost our way and need to learn how to be the loving, strong and connected leaders our families and society needs us to be. It is time for men to stand up and be counted.

Needs to be more of this
An incredibly brave and courageously written book from someone who has been through it all. Shaun should be applauded for his efforts. This book is a must read for any emergency service worker. There is also so much great content for any person in a dark place. The best book I have listened to all year. Keep them coming Shaun!!

Very Informative and Casual Reading
Understandably geared towards someone older and further into their lives but very helpful none the less. Very appreciative for the authors insight. Also great information to help with any family or friends going through PTSD or depression.

Resonated with my Life
Great real life encounter that had parrallels in my military and life growing up in general.
So often we as men bottle up our emotions and struggles due to what we are led to believe to be weakness.
Shaun shares his raw emotions and experiences and how he's overcome adversity to where he is now in life.
Shaun is well on his way to making a difference in the world of PTSD, anxiety and trauma whilst no doubt leaving a legacy in helping those in need.

A warts & all reflection on the battle with PTSD & mental health
Worth the time for anyone who’s struggled with mental health, in particular men or first responders, and society’s expectations. A compelling story that many of us can relate to in some way. Shaun’s ability to pull himself out of the depths of his despair provides insight, perspective and can help many.
