Heartbreaking
A very well-written story, and definitely worth listening to, but the main character was terribly frustrating. Perhaps, given her upbringing, and the times, she could have been no other way, but I wanted to slap her - which is rather ironic, given the subject matter. A testament to the tragedy of passivity. The gaps in communication between the characters were a mile wide. I felt the narrator did quite a good job, except that her voice was a bit flat. The ending was possibly too neat.

Excellent - highly recommend
This was a wonderful book, heart wrenching in parts and hard to listen to but achingly beautiful to listen to and the way the descriptions of music thread threw the story is magical. It’s intense, confronting but a rewarding read.

Brilliant
Loved this v evocative novel. Great insight and sensitivity in to the emotional abuse of women. Beautifully read. Most topical too. Perhaps too slow for some , but I felt equally as good as Chessel Beach.
