Publisher's Summary
For the first time we discover what really happened between his sister and the dastardly Wickham. How did he distract his friend Bingley from pining for his beloved Jane? Why did he propose to another young woman? Only to his diary does he tell his true story. At last we see Darcy as he really is; and, beneath his polite facade, we find a sensitive, private and passionate man.

Beautiful Voice
I love this take on how Mr Darcys mind works, such interesting insights into the man and his character.

Such a Firth-like Darcy voice.
David has a glorious Darcy voice. Was interesting hearing about more of the history at the time and the inclusion of Lord Byron.
The darker acts of Wickem were a bit hard to hear when use to the polite Austen versions, but unfortunately very believable. Along with a promiscuous Darcy at the start of the book!
But following his thoughts from hate to love is wonderfully done. An enjoyment for any Austen fan.
Also loved this interpretation of Anne DeBurge, will add it to my head cannon of P&P.

David Rintoul ☆sigh!☆
David Rintoul, the original and best Mr Darcy of 1980 BBC serial fame, delivers memorably the fictional contents of Mr Darcy's Diary, imaginatively written by Maya Slater.
TRIGGER WARNING While I dislike the scenes recounting rape and the gentry taking advantage of young females who served them, I can accept this behaviour was no doubt true of the era.
Otherwise, the tale steadily unfolds as Darcy genuinely learns to test societal proofs justly and comes to respect and appreciate what he finally gains in Elizabeth.
I particularly enjoyed the firsthand accounts of men's business which was not the business Jane Austen (author of source novel Pride & Prejudice) concerned herself with: details of travel, roads, estate planning, managing tenants, crops, livestock, funds and dowries.
I will be listening for the third time soon!

A surprising diary for Mr Darcy die hards
I was drawn into the story as each entry unfolded. But (spoiler alert) was really disappointed by the morally loose (behind closed doors) Mr Darcy and friends. The purity of these beloved characters has been something I valued previously. Readers need to be aware that Mr Darcy and other much loved characters are not 'one woman fellas' in this version... at least physically. The journal style was well written, and I found it was surprising to find the story behind the story in the final chapter.
Narration grew on me, and I came to appreciate the narrators deep, soulful sound.

Enjoyable
I enjoyed the book. Good to consider another perspective. Jane Austen's novels don't touch on some of the factors that being a male in the era deemed standard. This diary aiming to be a male perspective of the time this brings some in. A little heart breaking to see my Darcy as potentially not a "perfect" gentleman in all ways - although this behaviour may have been standard gentleman behaviour of the time.

Awful!
Gave up on this. Apparently I spent money on this on Kindle last year, started it and gave up. I completely forgot about it and saw it discussed on Facebook and being time poor now, ordered the audio version.
I gave up again. This time I made it all the way until Bingley and Darcy return to Netherfield then gave up. Elizabeth deserves better. He’s a hypocrite who consorts with servants and prostitutes but judges Elizabeth’s family.
The author spuriously says she based this on real diaries implying Jane Austen based Pride and Prejudice on real people.
This is not researched well and tries to destroy Mr Darcy’s character.
She should have used original names and not tried to capitalize on Jane Austen.
