About this listen

Amelia Willoughby has been engaged to the Duke of Wyndham for as long as she can remember. Literally. A mere six months old when the contracts were signed, she has spent the rest of her life waiting. And waiting. And waiting . . . for Thomas Cavendish, the oh-so-lofty duke, to finally get around to marrying her. But as she watches him from afar, she has a sneaking suspicion that he never thinks about her at all . . .

It's true. He doesn't. Thomas rather likes having a fiancée—all the better to keep the husband-hunters at bay—and he does intend to marry her . . . eventually. But just when he begins to realize that his bride might be something more than convenient, Thomas's world is rocked by the arrival of his long-lost cousin, who may or may not be the true Duke of Wyndham. And if Thomas is not the duke, then he's not engaged to Amelia. Which is the cruelest joke of all, because this arrogant and illustrious duke has made the mistake of falling in love . . . with his own fiancée!

something different

l enjoyed this story very much. lt was a bit different. The story kept me engaged which is a task these days with most romantic historicals being a rehash of the same story. Well written with well fleshed out characters.

Repetitive

Excluding the last couple of chapters, this book is the same story as the first, told from Thomas’ and Amelia’s point of view.

Story seems a little familiar.

After reading the first book in the series, the second seems a little repetitive. It's only really the last 2 chapters of the book that tell a story you feel like you haven't already heard. Still, it's very well narrated by the lovely Rosalyn Landor. But no way near my favourite Julia Quinn book.

Chicken or the egg

I purchased this and the Lost Duke of Wyndham as soon as the series became available because the concept of 2 books offering 2 versions of the one story sounded intriguing. However, listening to both was a let down because whilst the perspectives were certainly different the story was rehashed and not dynamic enough to warrant dedicated books to each POV. It should've just been one book well written. I also felt the characters of this book were more evenly (fairly) balanced than the other.

hmmm..Which to listen to first, or whether to listen to both at all. That's the question.

I listened to Mr Caversham, I Presume first given it was from the POV of the incumbent Duke. I really enjoyed the way the story unfolded and how readers were kept in suspense as to which man would end up inheriting the Dukedom.

I did prefer this story more, however, the same could probanly be said if you listen to the other book first.

This is the same book as ‘the lost duke of Whyndham’

If you have downloaded one don’t pay for the other, it is literally the same book with a different title.

Boring rehash of previous book.

Author could have expanded on the first story but instead just retold it from a different couples point of view. It got to the point where I knew exactly what each character was going to say or do because it was in the previous book. It was a missed opportunity.

It’s a duplicate story

I generally absolutely LOVE LOVE this author’s books. Unfortunately this one is a duplicate story of the previous one, told in a different point of view. I’d assumed this second story would pick up after the previous one but it didn’t. After the first couple of chapters, I didn’t bother listening to it all again but did listen to the last chapter and the epilogue. It had a great twist. I hope the author doesn’t duplicate stories again. It’s such a waste of time and money. As an aside, I really loved the first version of this story. It was absolutely excellent.
