About this listen

Courtney

I’m just so exhausted—always living on the edge of desperation, one paycheck away from ruin.

But this new job…

It could be the fresh start I need.

It could change everything.

The contract is only for three months, but if I keep my head down, work hard, and prove myself, maybe I could stay longer.

Maybe I could make Black Mountain Lodge my home.

As I pull down the gravel drive, surrounded by the forest and mountains and bright blue skies, I feel something I haven’t felt in a while.

I feel hope.

Sterling

My new employee is late.

I’m already in a bad mood about having to train him, still salty about my old guy retiring on me.

But while I’m waiting, a woman pulls up my drive.

A woman straight from my damn dreams.

Curvy and pretty, looking at me with wide eyes framed with sooty lashes.

And suddenly, I’m no longer thinking about my late employee.

But then she opens her mouth and asks for me, introducing herself as Courtney, my new hire.

Courtney. Not Court, like the application said.

And I realize there’s been a mistake.

I can’t have this woman working here. Living on my property. Distracting me. I mean, my staff.

No. She can’t work for me. End of story.

Except she won’t leave. She even threatens to sue me.

Fine. If she won’t let me fire her before she even starts, then I’ll just have to make her leave on her own.

Way too many chapters

I bought this title because 2 of my favourite narrators perform. They were great and the reason why I purchased this book.

I enjoyed the story as best I could, but not the 198 chapters and 2 epilogues. Some chapters were less than one minute long with more than 100 chapters running for 2 minutes or less. The short chapters were disruptive to the story with some placed in the middle of spicy scenes. It upset the flow of the story and was very jarring. If I had know this beforehand, I would not have bought this book.

This was my first SJ Tilly book and I am not sure if I will listen to another of her books if they are all like this, no matter who narrates it.

Great story line.

Great storyline, I really enjoyed it, the male narrator was amazing but I just couldn’t deal with the female narrator dragging her words out.. almost stopped listening a couple of times.. 😞

Adorable!

Very sweet with the right amount of spice for the story line. 10/10 would recommend to my book friends 💕

Pretty good

I loved the story & characters, and Connor Crais can do no wrong when narrating. But the female narrator was so hard to listen to, her inflections are weird, the way she ends sentences is off putting. But this is just her way, I’ve listened to some of her other work and had the same feeling.
The other thing was the very short chapters, it was irritating to chop and change point of view so quickly all the time - there were over 100 chapters!! Maybe it would be different ready rather than listening…
These two things kept it from being perfect for me.

Enjoyed story and narration but...

Enjoyed story and narration, but the story had 198 chapters plus two epilogues. Some chapters were only a few sentences long. Many were under a minute. The chapters were so numerous it kept taking me out of the story. One character would have a thought. Then 'Chapter ....' spoken outloud and you get jarred out of story. Got pretty annoyimg after first 90 chapters. A shame because the story was good, Side characters added to story. A bit of action and how the team looked after each other was great.
