About this listen
Some mistakes haunt you forever.
Harlan Young knows that from personal experience. Walking away from Grace Townsend, even with the best intentions and no other choice, still haunts him to this day.
So when he had the chance to return to Montana and be part of something as special as the Resting Warrior Ranch, he took it. Here, he can help train service and emotional support animals for former soldiers with PTSD.
And maybe, just maybe, convince Grace to give him a second chance.
He never expected that second chance to be in the form of a fake marriage in order to save the land she loves so much, but he’ll do it, as well as help fight the danger closing in on her. She thinks she’s alone, but she’s wrong.
She knew him as a boy, but now he's a man. And real men don’t run.

Evie's story was better
I left this on my tbr list for a bit as the old trope of 2nd chance love didn't really appeal.
but i love Erin Mallon, so I clicked.
this one, unlike book 1, was more on the romance side than the suspense side.
I was getting a bit antsy with some of the character responses, especially with the h. Her stubbornness was almost aggravating, and the H's stoicism was unlike what it should be with his brothers. I was grumpy with both of them.
the coulda, shoulda, woulda was getting old by chapter 23.
the pace of emotional forgiveness was slow, and the h's obstinance made it drag. although we needed the background and scene building, which is what kept me listening.
Chapter 24 picks up the angst, and then it was game on.
I wanted the seals to get a move on with doing what they do best.
but the plotline was too busy romancing the h and H.
there were a few holes in the storyline that I wanted the answer to, but it was one of those queries I had to guess.
eventually, I was relieved when Harlon's brain finally clicks into gear like Lucas's did.
Harlon was hard to warm to, his silence and delay on history, and details were just aaargh, and I wanted to shake him.
all in all, this couple didn't have the same intensity as book 1.
just too much introspection between suspense and revelations, chopped the tone up a bit.
the baddie was obvious from the start, and that made me want to yell at them all. sure, the h is strong and sassy, but although she can look after herself, a gunshot would probably end it.
good story but not as good as book 1.
narrator's did well, I'm an absolute Erin Mallon girl, so I automatically swallowed down the trope I don't normally listen to and went for it.
great writing. I just needed it to give me more smarts.
It's just a bit too frustrating for me.
