About this listen
The Sunday Times best-selling author of Every Dark Corner returns with an exclusive novel celebrating 10 years of Karen Rose's thrillers in the UK. Monster in the Closet reunites fans with characters from Karen Rose's best-selling Baltimore series.
A mother is dead, and now her killer hunts the child who witnessed the brutal crime....
Private Investigator Clay Maynard locates missing children for clients but has nearly given up hope of finding his own daughter, cruelly stolen from him by his ex-wife 23 years ago.
Equine therapist Taylor Dawson has chosen to intern at Daphne Montgomery-Carter's stables so that she can observe the program's security director - her father, Clay Maynard. Trying to reconcile the wonderful man she's getting to know with the monster her mother always described, Taylor never expects to become the target of a real monster: the man who murdered the mother of the little girls she works with at the stable. Nor does she expect to fall for Ford Elkhart, Daphne's handsome son, who is dealing with his own demons. As family and friends gather for a wedding, Taylor starts to imagine a permanent life in Baltimore.
But not if the real monster gets to her first....

Not her best work
Not her best work. Not as many twists and turns as usual. A lot of character development.

First dud of the bunch
What disappointed you about Monster in the Closet?
I have loved everything by Karen Rose up to now. This is the first book I struggled to get through. There was no mystery or surprises...which is usually a trademark of Karen Rose's books so I was quite unpleasantly surprised. We know from the beginning who the bad guy is and the dialog between the 2 characters who fall in love are enough to make you want to fast forward. I don't know what happened but all her other books I would highly recommend. This one...well, maybe give it a miss and you won't be missing anything. Hopefully the next one will be back to there previous awesomeness. Also, this particular vocal artist did not suit the story at all.
Would you ever listen to anything by Karen Rose again?
Yes! This is the only dud I've found and I've listened to all that are available to be listened to.
How could the performance have been better?
A different vocal artist to start with.
What character would you cut from Monster in the Closet?
Ugh. I don't know where to begin. The whole romance thing between the extremely young characters was awful.
Any additional comments?
Bring back the twists we don't see coming until the last chapter!
