classic voice acting of it's time
I loved this narrator and yes he'd probably never heard half the accents he valiantly attempts (although nothing can forgive his French one). that aside it's great acting, which is what this book needs. At times interesting catalogue of 18th century whaling techniques, at times Shakespearean dialogue with Greek drama and timeless message at the heart which none can ignore - the danger of vanity and greed. a great and moving performance and well worth reading a little about the author and narrator!
All that said a modern editor would fairly tear this apart and probably not mortally wound it. It's far too long.
